I can't vote because when I see/hear this name, I don't think of any particular ethnicity. I like the name very much, though.

Thanks for responding. I just heard this name last weekend when DH and I were watching a movie. I havn't known of or heard of anyone with this name, so I associate it with the character in the movie, who was white. When I mentioned that DH and I like this name to one of my friends who is African American, he said it sounded African American to him. When I told one of my other friends, she said it sounded Middle Eastern. Thus the reason for the poll, I wanted to see what other people thought. It doesn't really matter, but I would not want to look pretentious for naming a child a name of another origin then we are, and I would like my child to look like their name, KWIM? If another boy would look like my DS, then he would have light, light, blonde hair, and the blueist eyes that most people have ever seen, at least thats what strangers tell us everyday. So I guess can you imagine a little boy fitting that description named Abram?

After reading the description of what your son might look like, Abram sounded too serious. I immediately thought of Seth, Owen, and Beckett.

Good luck,

I would assume he was of Jewish descent.

That's a tough question. For me it's a toss up between white and middle eastern. You should be safe with it, I think.

Since Abram is a form of Abraham, I would definitely assume that he was Middle Eastern or Jewish. I've known lots of Abrahams/Abrams and all of them were Middle Eastern or Jewish. I have a cousin named Abraham who is half Iranian.

I would definitely picture an Abram with olive skin and dark hair and dark eyes. I'd be pretty surprised to meet one with fair skin, blond hair and blue eyes.

If you love the name, go for it. There's nothing wrong with making people challenge their assumptions. :)

Thanks to everyone for responding and voting. I'm not preg yet, but when I heard the name in the movie, I immediately fell in love with it, and that is so rare for me. My DH likes it too, so that's even rarer! The character in the movie goes by Abe, which I love, and I'm not into nns all that much. Then a scene shows his name written out, thats the only time you see it, he is only called Abe, up until that part. Up until that scene I assumed it would be Abraham, which I just don't find nearly as appealling. The character was white so thats who I associate with the name. I have not know an Abe or Abraham, or has even heard of anyone with the Abram, so when I saw the name, I was smitten. It does seem that a lot of people find it Middle Eastern or thanks to those of you who responded, Jewish, which we are not. We are as white as they come, and Catholic. So maybe the name just wouldn't work for us. I have time to decide, but I have never jumped on a name like this. I was immediately set on naming my next son, if I have one, Abram.

It's funny because I would think of Abe or Abraham as being African American and Abram as being Jewish - but only if someone asked me to guess, like you did.

It was hard for me to choose between Mid. East and white, but I chose white.
