where were you when "your water broke"?
- At home
- At the hospital / with your mid-wife
- In Public (ie: Grocery store, movie theater, restaurant)
You will be able to change your vote.

Well, technically I've had two babies, so if I could vote twice it'd be once at home and once at the hospital with my midwife (AND I could almost say in public as well, but I'll explain LOL).
The first time around, I was sitting on the couch with my husband and his partner from work (who were luckily home for their break) when I felt and heard a kind of "gurgle" like a water balloon bursting or a stopped-up drain suddenly emptying, KWIM? I rushed to the bathroom just in time for a big gush, after which it would kind of come and go as I changed position (which was really annoying, since I wasn't actually in labor yet and didn't go to the birth center for good until hours later that night). So all day long as we finished running around getting some last minute things I'd be perfectly dry one minute and then feel a rush of water coming the next (I had to change my clothes a LOT). ;) When we stopped at a video store for some movies to watch during the labor (our birth center had a comfy living room complete with tv and vcr ... and we did watch Deep Blue Sea, of all things LOL), I had to run to the employees-only restroom when I felt one such gush coming on, and the girl working the counter there was so thrilled to be able to tell everyone that my water broke "right there in the store!" (I didn't have the heart to tell her it was technically already "broke," plus it was actually nice not to be embarrassed about it, since she thought it was so cool LOL).
The second time around, I was actually hoping my water wouldn't break until I was well into labor (much less messy/uncomfortable that way!), and it didn't. :) So I had a nice, DRY, clean labor at home and was 9+ centimeters with a "bulging bag" when I finally met my midwife at the hospital. Basically, that was all that was holding her in and as soon as I was able to push she popped right out (ok, the first push broke my water, and she was actually born with the next one). Fast and easy! :)
Needless to say, I much preferred the second, less-messy birth (although the first makes for a funny story now LOL).

For son #1, I was at home. I had suspected that I had a "slow leak" so I was all ready to go to the hospital to have them check. I had gotten up that morning, got ready and called my ob, they said go to the hoapital just in case. So as I was standing up after putting on my shoes, it happened. Ugh. Had to totally change my clothes and then leave. I drove myself there (and Dh still is mad at me for that and said I should have called him home from work!)
For son #2, they broke my water for me. I prefer my water breaking on its own---lets you know htat YES, its TIME TO GO!

Well, I've yet to give birth, but I have two friends whose water broke in public. One was at the mall, walking with friends and they were laughing and fooling around and suddenly she said, "My water just broke!" and they all thought she was joking.
The other is a college professor who thought she had it timed perfectly so that her baby would be born over winter break. But she decided to arrive two weeks early, and her water broke right in the middle of her lecture. Those kids got quite a surprise in class that day.
I was at home - in bed asleep.
With #1 I was at home. I had a sensation that something was happening, rushed to the bathroom and GUSH!!! Then I continued to have miny gushes for hours!
With #2, they broke my water in the hospital to move it along and boy did it ever!
With #3, she came very quick, they didn't have to "move it along". My water broke on it's own at the hosptial at 6:09, she was born at 6:11!!!
