It was a toss up for me between Asher and Emmett. My DS is Emeth so i voted for Emmett.
Asher means Happy and Emeth means truth or faithful. i'm not sure if Emmett has a similar meaning.

Thanks, everyone! Your comments are all great. I really appreciate it :) Eventually, I have to work on middle names and *that* will be impossible, I think. First names, I can choose. Middle names just confuse me.
Hey, does anyone actually *HATE* any of these names? I want to get all the criticism I can.
You asked if there are any that we hate? I don't hate any; they are nice names. I wouldn't use Ross because of a personal experience with a Ross, but that's no reason for YOU not to use it! My husband is Jon and it's a great name, but Jon/John is very popular, if you care to take that into consideration.

Any we hate, huh? ;) Well since you asked, I'll be honest (but please don't feel bad if you end up picking one of these LOL).
I really hate Ross and Jonah. Ross has always seemed like such a whiney, wimpy name to me (even before Friends LOL), and the few I've known - only in the Midwest, as I've never met one in PA - have fit that image to a tee. Jonah has an ok sound, but to many people familiar with the story it simply can't be seperated from the mental image of fish vomit (and I'm not saying this to me mean, but a friend was considering this very name and was upset that it was the first thing pretty much everyone she mentioned it to thought of ... the reaction was always, "you mean the guy that got puked up by the whale?" LOL). Needless to say, she crossed that one off her list.
I also don't care for Jon or Hans very much ... but I wouldn't say I hate them. I just don't like Jon all by itself, especially with the toilet correlation (and really, Jonathan's not my cup of tea, but that's besides the point), and Hans is fine if it has a link to your family or heritage, but if not I would probably think it was odd (oh, and it does make me think of a terrorist or something ... was that the bad guy's name in Die Hard, or am I nuts? LOL).
Since I feel bad telling you which ones I hate, I'd like to soften the blow by reiterating that Asher, Isaac, Seth and Emmett are GREAT! :) HTH!

Thanks for the honest input :) I do really appreciate it.
You're definitely not the first person to tell me that Jonah is whale puke and Hans sounds like a Cold War terrorist name. Also that Jon is incomplete. Here's the source of all three issues: Johannes. I like Johannes, but it sounds like some kind of art gallery owner with a gelled-back ponytail and a pair of designer glasses worth more than my monthly paycheck. That, and I'm not German. That's where Jonah and Hans and Jon all come in. They're like compromises. I'm still trying to feel out how to substitute for Johannes without coming up short.
And Ross might be equally silly because I'm not Scottish, so the only real association I can claim to it is Ross Geller of "Friends," which is not to say that I like that show or that character. I don't. I just like one-syllable names that *DON'T* sound like Brock or Gage or Zane or Dirk. Those names sound like a dude who's going to grow up and beat me up. And a guy name Gage could probably take me. Big strong names intimidate me.
So what to do? What are some more tame one-syllable boys names?
LOL Loved your explanations (especially about Gage being able to take you ... you're right, I can't imagine a "whimpy" Gage). ;)
As to Johannes, I'd have to say that if you can't see yourself using that exact name (and I get the same mental image, btw LOL), I don't think you'll be completely happy with any of the "compromise" names, KWIM?
I don't think Ross would be an odd name if you're not Scottish (most of the ones I've known weren't either, or at least not that I knew of LOL), but I do think most will immediately think of Friends, as you mentioned. ;)
You can look up only one-syllable names on some different Web sites. Here's a link to one where I did just that for you (hoping it works LOL). http://www.babycenter.com/babyname/results.jhtml?_DARGS=%2Fbabyname%2Findex.jhtml
In case the link doesn't work (or even if it does LOL), some I liked for you were:
Bram (actually a shortened form of Abraham, according to the site, but I think it'd work on its own ... and I don't think he'd beat you up! LOL)
Brant/Brent/Brett (I'll put similar ones together in case this gets long)
Brooks
Bryce
Clint/Clive
Cole
Craig
Dane
Finn
Gabe
Grant
Heath (ooh, Heath is good ... he wouldn't hurt a fly! :)
Jack/Jake (but Jack is pretty popular)
Joel (love this one too!)
Jude (ditto!)
Kent
Kyle
Lance (I've only known one, and he's pretty tame LOL)
Leif (a guy named Leif just has to be gentle hehe)
Luke
Miles/Myles (know a little boy named this, and he's very sweet)
Russ (maybe better than Ross?)
Seth (very sweet!)
Shane
Shaun
Tate
Vaughan/Vaughn
Wade
My personal favorites (right now LOL) would probably be Heath, Joel, Jude, Seth and Wade, but I like a lot of the others as well. HTH! :)

Edited to add: Wow! Forgot Seth was on your list already! Guess it really does fit! LOL
