Which Celtic girl's name?
- Moira (Moy-ruh)
- Grainne (Grahn-ya)
- Rionach (Ri-uh-nach, gaelic ch is like an extremely breathy letter K)
- Rhiannon (Ree-uh-nun)
- Saoirse (Sew-ur-shuh, Gaelic AO combo sounds between English oo and ew)
- Spelling is too tough on most of these
- No one would pronounce them correctly
- Kelli's combo posts inspired dh & I to re-examine some celtic names we like
- thanks for voting!

What about Siobhan? Its not as uncommon as Saoirse or Rionach, although spelling is definitely an issue for a friend of mine with this name. Grainne is a personal favorite, but I'm sure you would get 'grainy' a lot.
Other suggestions: Eithne, Maeve, Muirne/Morna, Una/Oona.
Siobhan is nms, I have a strange aversion to names with the 'von' sound in them not sure why. I tried Maeve, Morna and Una, but dh wasn't crazy about them. Orla and Nuala are two more that I like that he won't agree to.
thanks,
Meredith
my daughters name is Rhiannon, pronounced Ree-an-on. Yes after the beautiful song and also after a mythological story about a girl named Rhiannon. The song is based on the story.
Anyways....my daughter is 6, she loves it. Everyone compliments me and her on how unique it is and we have yet to actually meet another Rhiannon. She is the ONLY Rhiannon in her entire school and it is just a really cool name.
Hope that helps.
good luck
