I love Rhys! It's familiar enough even in the States, it's simple, masculine & classy! Can't be beat. :D

I could vote for Reese, that spelling, but not Rhys (which I see as RISS).

As a mother of sons I can tell you that boys don't like weird names. Other boys make fun of them. Boys don't like to stand out. They don't want to have to correct adults who mispronouce their names or misspell them. They don't want the whole class snickering on the first day of first grade. Nor do they want to have to tell teachers every year how to pronounce their name and how to spell it correctly. I know that parents like weird names, but little kids don't.

What is 'Rhys'? A family last name? Sorry, but I have no idea how to pronounce that. Zane was famous cowboy, right? Phoenix? Do you live there? Elijah isn't awful. I knew a kid named that, and he hated it, but he found a nice nickname, Lige. He got rid of Elijah as soon as he legally could. But he's now 21. I don't think the name is as unusual now.

Have you considered any 'normal' guy names? I had a great uncle name Aubrey. He was a cowboy in Texas. I always thought it was a cool name but I don't know how he felt about it.

you and I will have to agree to disagree then. I have known Men/Boys with each name on that list, and all, I repeat ALL Truly liked their name. My former foster Sons had "Normal" names and both wanted to change it to something less common (One wanted to change to Jeremiah (ranked 91 most poplular last year, his ranked in the top 10, and was #4 the year he was born) the other to Augustus (Ranked 859 last year, his has been in the top 3 since before he was born) and those were names they picked out of the blue, that they wanted to be called (dont ask me why, just didnt like thier names).

If you dont like my naming style than just say that they are not your style, you dont have to put down other peoples choices and tell them to find something "Normal".

Rhys - Pronouced Reece (many of the people who post here know that) It is Welsh, and yes I have welsh Ancestory. This was also the name of one of my best friends growing up (it was his MIDDLE NAME and he Chose to go by this.... I have loved this spelling ever since.

Zane- I dont know if he was a famous Cowboy or not, and frankly I dont care. Zane means God has given, and after YEARS of infertility, multiple tests (Including DH and I having Surgry 6 days apart) and the process of adoption.... We think the meaning is perfect. (Crawling up the popularity chart to #220)

Phoenix- No We do NOT live there, again picked on Meaning. (Crawling up also # 574 from 989 6 years ago)

Elijah - Elijah means "My God is God" and if you dont like Biblical names thats your choice, but Beings we are Christian, He will have a Church family who apricates his name, and a history that he can appricate (that goes for if we Chose a Less "Normal" name such as Ezra, Abraham, Moses, Ezekiel...which we are not choosing btw)

Torin and Cian are Irish names which we both love, I have a very strong Irish Harritage. (Torin Means Thunder and Cian means Enduring)

And I dont know what you ment by your comment on Aubrey. But Aubrey is my name, I was the only Aubrey in my City Growing up, and I Love it. I have since met some Grown men Named Aubrey who also Love thier Name.

We are also Choosing a less common name Because Our last name is Cox and that is Fairly Common. I would rather our son Be the only kid he knows with his name then be Michael L. cox NOT Michael T. Cox or what ever.

Anyways Sorry this went so long.

I have to make a comment on a members post about common. All my kids have common names only because I could not think of any good ones !LOL! I love the names Aubrey has picked they are not common and every other kid dont have that name ! The woman who commented I would love for her to read this.... Not so common is best because when your child gets in school and his/ her name is called then 10 others are looking because thats thier name to ! My kids hate common names and wish they had not so common. Standing out and learning to be a indivisual and not like others is what we are suppose to teach our kids and why not start with thier names !! I love everyname Aubrey picked and wish she would have been around when I had my kids to throw out suggestions!

Aubrey ... I wish I would have named my first daughter Aubrey , Its a beautiful name and has a ring to it !

I voted for Elijah because I like what it means. I also like Rhys but its becoming a girls name BUT if thats what you decide to go with I think if you keep it spelt that way they will know he is a boy. Oh I wanted to suggest this name Leif, a 1-syllable boy's name of Norse origin, means: One who is well-loved; the heir. One way or the other you have a great selection of names.

Good Luck,

Shelby

I think you should pick Rhys (okay just a teeny bit biased) just to make sure that it STAYS a boys name LOL!! Seriously I have had nothing but compliments on my sons name. Occasionally people do say "Riss" or "Rice" the first time they read it but you only have to correct them once (I mean come on...its one syllable for crying out loud!)

Congratulations on your upcoming adoption and good luck choosing the perfect name!

Rhys, Zane, Elijah and Phoenix? Not normal? Come on, they're everywhere! Rhys (more commonly Reece or Reese in most of this country) is rising in popularity, as are Zane and Elijah........and both of those have been in use for at least 100 years! Phoenix is a newer name, but still very recognizable, especially to this new generation. "Lige" is very odd, as is Aubrey for a boy these days.

My son does enjoy having a common name. I think it depends on the kid, but his comment on Rhys, Zane, Elijah and Phoenix? "Cool! If we have a brother can we name him one of those?" Straight from a very popular 4th grader.....if it wasn't cool, he'd say so!
