I prefer Marin over Maureen. I think Fiona would be okay for a mn but I don't like it for a first name. I like some of your other choices better. Stick with Keller or Harper for first names. ;) Just my two cents. :)
Terra.
Máirín is actually the traditional Gaelic spelling of the name Maureen. It's completely unrelated to the more modern/trendy name Maren/Marin which I think is cute but would never consider using myself. I'm only interested in it's popularity because of how it relates to Máirín. I might consider using the the anglicised Maureen spelling, but if I'm going to use that pronounciation anyway, it seems silly to me not to use the spelling that I love.

Maybe, but she'll only be a "little kid" for a fraction of her life. When contemplating names, I tend to name adults, not children. I'd rather my kids grow into their names than grow out of them.
Thanks, Terra. Unfotunately, I've jumped ship on Harper and Keller. I still LOVE them, but I can't turn around wihout tripping over another new Harper -- it seems everyone I know is meeting them left and right. And Keller got dismal reviews on real life, and the "killer" comments really turned me off.
Also I finalized my choice on a sperm donor last week and he's as Irish as I am, so I've reverted back to my original plan of using Irish names. (which got scrapped when I wound up in a relationship with a woman who was German since it didn't seem fair -- since we split and I've decided to proceed on my on own, I can go with the Irish names I really loved all along)
Ok, Annie, I actually love Fiona Maeve. ;) Two of my favorites (and I don't remember you mentioning Fiona before, or I'd have been all over it LOL). Fiona Mairin is good too, but I like the flow of Maeve just a bit better. However, if you do end up going with Mairin as a fn or mn, I would stick with the traditional spelling. As you mentioned, if you're using the Maureen pronunciation, you might as well go with the spelling that you love (which I also think is much more visually appealing, btw). ;)

You said, "When contemplating names, I tend to name adults, not children. I'd rather my kids grow into their names than grow out of them."
I have only one response to this: Hallelujah, praise the Lord, someone who feels the same way I do! We are overrun with Katelyns and Katies and Brielles, and Jadens and Greyers, and I don't think of of these parents stop to consider what it's like to be a 30-year-old professional trying to get a job, with a resume that reads "Brielle."
That rant's over, thankfully. As for the names, I don't love the name Fiona, but because I love Maeve so much, I voted for Fiona Maeve. My grandmother's middle name was Mae (she just died on New Year's Day), and when I have a daughter, I really want to use Mae or Maeve for her middle name. And as for Mairin, please, in this day in age when every other name is being spelled WRONGLY, why not use an the ACTUAL, non-made-up spelling that you love and that is indicative of your heritage? How about Mairin Maeve? ...Sorry, I don't know how to insert the accents in this font...forgive me!
Congratulations to you for going forward with your plans to have a baby! I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world! I've always said that if I'm not married by the time I'm 35, I'm going to adopt a dozen babies from anywhere I can get them; I just hope I have the courage to do it!
