I voted "Aeia" but only because I could figure out the pronunciation of it without your help. I like the name "Anya" a lot, but I would never think to say "An-ya" while looking at "Aine" - I would pronounce Aine more closely to Ann (like Ayn).

Aine is an Irish name, hence the spelling.

Well "Ayn" is actually correctly pronounced Eye-n (though most often mispronounced as aye-n)...ask me how I know LOL its actually my middle name ;)

Are you totally stuck on the spellings of these names? I really like Anya but that spelling kind of turns me off on it.

Yep the spelling is firm on Aine...have you seen my sons name LOL!! It is the Irish variation on the name. DH and I feel strongly about picking names with some cultural significance so if I had an Eastern European ancestry I would probably go with Anja...but I don't so Aine is more appropriate IMO (and today DH agreed that Aeia ... as pretty as it is isn't really appropriate since it is actually a greek name and last time I looked at our family tree it was pretty greek free LOL!

We have officially decided on our baby names :D

Aine Beatrix Jane or Graeme Angus John (mn are family names BTW)

Thanks to everyone for voting!

I think Anya is a beautiful name--I'm not sure why more people don't use it! I don't understand the spelling you've chosen though--I would not have pronounced it Anya and would imagine others would have a similar problem. Unless it's a French Canadian spelling and it would be obvious to those in your area? (I see you're Canadian)

Anyway...I love the name.

Actually Áine is an Irish spelling of the name...since both DH and I have Irish ancestry it makes more sense to choose a spelling that works with our family history. The spelling Anya is actually a slavic spelling so it would not make any sense for us to use that spelling.

I don't think from looking at my sons name that the pronunciation "reese" springs to mind and yet that is exactly how it is pronounced (his is a Welsh name BTW).
