I think you might get very different results if you ran this poll between Cadence, Andrea, Andi and Brindolyn (or some other more recognizable spelling). Once you get people to agree on which name they like, then try again for which spelling of it you'd go with. It's really hard to choose from a poll where the names are fine but the spellings make me cringe.

I voted for Andee because it was the only name that looked even close to correctly spelled. I actually prefer Andrea (spelled Andrea) or Cadence (spelled Cadence).

Thank you for your input but the names I put on the poll are to be pronounced as they are spelled. For example I don't like the name Andrea the name is Andraya pronounced {and ray a} not {and ree a}. Also to cadence is to walk in a rhythm. Caydence is to me more of a name. And I don't like the name Brindolyn prounced {brin doe lyn} I like the name Brindalyn pronounced {brin da lyn}.

I'm afraid that I can't get past the spelling. The creative spellings will cause her a lot of trouble, and if I may be blunt, they don't give off a very educated vibe.

# Caydence - spelled Cadence, it's trendy, but OK
# Andee - this is a nickname and the "ee" makes it look cheap. How about Andrea?
# Andraya - this looks like either the parent or birth certificate person couldn't spell
# Brindalyn call her Brin - this looks odd to me

I am confused as to why people would still be talking about the spellings. You suggested Andrea I said in my last post that I don't like the name Andrea. How would you suggest I spell Andraya pronounced "And ray a" not "And ree a" other than what is listed. If you say the names the way they are spelled you would understand the spellings. I urge you to read my previous post where I listed the reasons for all of the spellings. And by the way I am educated. I have a 4 year degree in Insurance and Risk Management and I work as an account manager at one of the largest insurance companies in the United States. So the comment you made about being uneducated really confuses me. I don't want my daughter to have a name that everyone else has. Grace, Emma and Lauren are all beautiful names but I know at least 3 people who have each of these names. I don't want my daughter to have to go by Grace A. using the initial of her last name because there are two other Grace's in her class.

Theres one thing where you dont have a popular name, theres another thing where a names spelling looks completely off. These are all great names and they arent popular even in their spelling. Cadence for example, is a name that there wont be three of, but with the name Caydence, it just looks wrong. And personally I wouldnt pronounce the spelling of Brindolyn as Brin-doe-lyn, I would pronounce it with a soft "o" lyn. But of course the spelling is up to you, youll just have to get use to saying, for instance, its Caydence with a "y" in it.

Andrea is pronounced either ahn-DRAY-a or AN-dre-a. Like Caroline is either CAROL-in or CARO-line. I'm not suggesting that you change your chosen pronunciation, just that you recognize that the name you're going for (pronounced with a long "a") is usually also spelled Andrea.

No one says Gwendolyn with a full "o" in the middle. Nor would they say Brindolyn any differently than they'd say Brindalyn or Brindilyn or Bryindylynne or whatever -- it would just make it easier for people to spell.

Cadence will mean the same thing whether or not you spell it as the dictionary does, but putting a "y" in it makes it more confusing.

Basically, the reason people are talking about the spellings is because the particular names you chose look just as pretty spelled in the normal way rather than phonetically. If my name were Kayt Uhlyzah, for instance, I'd feel pretty strange about it. Kate Eliza is good enough for me. I don't think it would be better spelled exactly like it sounds.

This is all just personal preference, opinion. I personally prefer "correct" spellings over anything else. Then again, I'm a copy editor by trade. Correct spelling is how I make my living. I don't mean to state my opinions on it in a judgmental way and I'm sorry if I've come across that way.

My principles about spelling make their own problems, which I definitely recognize. The correct spelling of the Scottish short form of Alexandra is Leagsaidh -- I think it's a great name and might not hesitate to use it, but I realize that if I posted it as a suggestion on these boards, I'd be slaughtered.

In short, no hard feelings.

I've read all the messages and I wanted to say that I like your spellings. I don't think it makes you look dumb in anyway. I Like to change names up a little bit. How often are people going to be writting the childs name anyway. Only if they're the school teacher or doctor or something. Most people won't ever know how it's spelled.I am pregnant with my first child and one name that I liked was Cadence. Of course my husband hates it, but I wanted to spell it Kadynce. I think that you should spell it however you want.Good luck.

Just a question... if "most people won't ever know how it's spelled," then why spell it differently? I think the time the written name is probably most important is at the top of a resume because that's a case in which your name precedes you. And I know that people shouldn't make judgments just based on a name, but they do, and studies have shown it.

Of course, that's JMO, and you certainly have the right to name your child whatever you want -- just remember that they won't be little children forever and might someday want to be a doctor or lawyer or CEO, and they might want a name that looks just as professional on paper as it sounds.

I voted for Andraya, and I understand your reasoning for spelling it that way even though I think Andrea looks simpler. I'm not usually a fan of unusual spellings, but Andraya doesn't bother me that much. You could also go with Aundrea b/c once people start with the "aun" sound, I think they're more likely to finish with the "dray-uh" ending.

Cadence isn't really my style, and Caydence just looks off to me. Andee is more of a nn, IMO, and I'd prefer a full name like Andrea so that she has the option of using it. Brindalyn isn't bad -- it's just not my style.

Good luck making a decision!
