My first reaction to Lotus was the car and then I thought of those annoying locust bugs.

I think Ireland is a really nice name.

That was a hard one because I'm not so much a fan of names that are nouns, especially when they're misspelled nouns (Rayne, Nevaeh, Skye, etc.). Both of your names are made of two nouns stuck together, so that made the decision doubly hard. But, I ended up voting for Ireland because I love the name India, and Ireland has a similar feel (though obviously, the countries are very different). Plus, Ireland is somewhat accepted as a name (though not as widely as India), and Lotus just isn't. Plus, a friend of mine and her husband got into tantric sex a while back, and it's all they EVER talked about...much to the chagrin of EVERYONE around them. Anyway, the lotus touch is some big deal something-or-other in tantric sex. So, that kills it for me.

Although Ireland isn't a name I'd use myself, I can see myself really loving it on the right little girl. I do have difficulty picturing it on an adult, but maybe if I met one I'd feel differently.

Oh my, I never knew there was such a thing (the Lotus touch thing)! i will definitely proceed with caution... :) I normally don't like mispelling names, but Ray is a family name and my other daughter's middle name is Raelee (my middle name Rae with DH's middle name Lee.) SO I want my children to have family names for middle names. And ALL the women's names have been played out. (i am named after my grandmother, all the girls have lynn as their middle name on dh's family bc grandmother's name is lynn.)

i love ireland too, but i am trying to sell DH on it. :) he promised if the baby is due on st paddy's day we will.

Ireland over Lotus, no contest! Especially for a St. Patty's Day Baby, very neat. My ds was due on March 21, and my friends and family had bets going that he would be born on St. Patrick's Day, but he surprised us all and was born on March 4. Good luck in TTC and the naming process!

I voted Ireland becuase I think that would be a cute name on a little girl. Like a PP said, Lotus brings to mind the Lotus flower which in some cultures is very closely tied with sex. I dont really like the combination of Ireland Rayne though, sounds just a little too um, literal I guess. Like Rain in Ireland or something. I can understand wanting the name to be a family name, but maybe you could do something else. You said your middle name is Rae - how about Ireland Rae? I think that sounds better than Ireland Rayne.

I definitely respect the family name thing. It's very important for me to use names from my family tree as well. But, the thing is, I think that since your middle name is Rae and your daughter's middle name is Raelee, you've sort of played out the Ray thing. Right? My other suggestion is to use the middle name Rhea.

Here are a few other options:

Rachel (but, I wouldn't add a Y to it: Raychel...that's bad).
Raya (this is an Isreali name meaning "friend")
Helen (this name means "Ray," as in "Ray of Sun" or "Ray of Light"; other possibilities are Elinor, Helene, Helena, Ellen, Elena, Aileen, Nora).

I love the name Rachel. One of the Helen-derived names may be perfect for you, too. The reason I suggested the names whose literal meanings are "Ray" is so that you can still honor your family but bring a new name into the fold. I have a friend, and she and all of her sisters all have the same middle name. They all hated it growing up, and my friend always said it was because her parents were lazy.

Anyway, maybe one of these will appeal to you...! Good luck.
