Will my child hate me if I name her Myrtle?

  • Yes, she'll get picked on
  • Yes, it's a horribly ugly name
  • No, it's a sweet, if old-fashioned, name (think of the plant!)
  • No, people will get to know the name though her, and it won't be that bad

When puberty hits, your daughter will hate you no matter what you name her.

Even though I actually like Myrtle--I think it has a serious, earthy sort of charm and is more attractive to me than more popular nature names like Hazel and Stone--I also think of Moaning Myrtle and Myrtle the Turtle before I think of the flowering tree. I think this would be a difficult name to grow up with.

Have you considered Mabel? It's similar to Myrtle in many respects but more appealing to the modern ear.

ETA: I found your list, and obviously you have considered Mabel. :) Between the two, I'd go with Mabel.
