It's more than okay...it's a great idea! It's a wonderful way to pass down a part of your name and give your daughter that special connection to her mom without the confusion of having the exact same name or nickname. If you were planning to call her Lizzie or Liza, it might be too confusing. But Eliza is different enough that it shouldn't ever be a problem.

And, even without the family connection, I LOVE the name Eliza. It's so spunky and works beautifully at every age. It's a fantastic name.

Definitely. ;)

It's actually ok to use the same exact name -- not as common presently as boys named for their fathers, but it has always been done. My grandmother's sister is named Beatrice, same as her mom, for example.

That said, I'm not a big fan of giving a child (male or female) the same exact name as a parent, but I do quite like using a different form. The sound of Eliza is certainly different enough to set her apart from you, and to be honest, I love the name. ;) So sweet and spunky. Great choice, IMO.

Thanks! I thought since the "i" sound in Liz and Eliza is different, it would probably be OK.

I also think Eliza is a really great name- old-fashioned and very pretty.

It will definitely be on our list for future kids. I was trying to find family names for girls (we have tons of boys family names lined up, so I don't want any kids left out) and it was really tough to find any we remotely liked (Wilma, Faye...not much to work with here)!

Thanks, I'm glad to see that most people think it would be fine.

I never considered it before, but then it dawned on me that it sounded different because of the long "i" sound of Eliza!

I will go on the list, but I'm still hoping to convince DH to use family names as middle names only, so we'll see.
