Would you use a name similar to a relatives name?

  • DH has a large family and the name I like best is very similar to one of his
  • fist cousins. Would you still use it?
  • yes

  • no

There's no straightforward answer here, it depends on lots of things.

A little more info:

This cousin is only about 10. She seems like a perfectly nice little girl whom we see twice a year. Her name is Alayna, and I like the name Alaina, but we would call ours Allie. Too close with even with the nickname?

My husband comes from a very large, close family so the battle for baby names is tough. It seems my list of names gets shorter and shorter as the family grows.

These are my neices and nephews and so we have to have some similar names. My mil gets them confused all of the time.

Well, Alayna/Alaina are the same name, one letter difference and it's just cosmetic.
