I'm the weird "other" vote. LOL

My middle name, Ann, is the same as my grandmother's, without the final "e" and everything (her name is Mary Ann). I always thought that was "for her," but it turns out my mom just liked it with Kelli. That shouldn't have surprised me, really, because my parents are pretty big on filler mns ... Kelli ANN, Dara JOY and Stephen JAMES (to be fair, James is also my father's mn, but I have to wonder if they "just liked it" as well LOL ... my mother's mn is Lee!). So there you have it, an entire family of filler mns. ;)

We don't have many family names as fns, even in my extended family, although I do have an Uncle George and grandfather named George (but they purposefully gave him a different mn because they didn't want a Junior ... they just happened to like the name George! LOL).

Do you mean family first name, family last name, or both?

When I voted, I assumed that she was asking whether you are named after anyone in your family, and if so, is that name your first name, your middle name, or are both names in honor of family members? Both my first name and my middle name are family names, so I voted "first and middle."

I may be wrong, though...

If you were named after anyone in your family. Vista was my great-grandmother's first name and it's my middle name so I voted for middle name. One of my friend's middle name

I voted other. My middle name is after a family member, but it isn't the same name just the same initial. My middle name is Gayle after Goldie.

Hello, neither my first name or middle name is from a family member but my daughter's middle name was named after both of her grandmothers. We lucked out, both of their middle names was Ann. My cousin also used her mother and mother inlaws first names to create her daughters name Shaylynn > Sharry-Lynda. We are pregnate now with our second and we are strongly concidering using our fathers middle names for a boy or my middle name for a girl. Best of luck.

Neither. My parents picked our names just because they liked them. :-) So, we're Stephanie Renee and Jeffrey Michael -- nice common 70s names for you. ;-)

DH's parents gave him a family first name, but picked a mn that they just liked, and he's always gone by his mn. His sister got probably the most common full name of our generation just b/c they liked it -- Jennifer Lynn.

I voted first name but it's kind of a roundabout way... mom's maiden name was Robinson, Dad's name is Robert so I got Robyn (mom liked girl names with y in them - don't know why...) That way both sides were included. My dad picked my middle name just because he liked it.

I'm a 'neither.' My family just doesn't do this. According to my research, the last time a baby in my family was given a family name was waaaay back in 1904, with the exception of a stillborn baby girl in the 20s who was given her mother's name. When I was pregnant, I thought I might use Jay as the mn to honor my brother, but I changed my mind at the eleventh hour and the mn became Harrison. My brother and I both thought we might use the name Elizabeth to honor our mother if either of us ever has a girl, but after trying to decide who 'gets' the name, we mutually decided neither of us would use it at all. I guess we like everyone to have their own unique name.
