Someone suggested this name to me today & it struck me as pretty....unique without being weird....

Any thoughts on the name? Good, bad, otherwise? Nickname suggestions other than Val? Any middle name thoughts?

TIA!

I've always loved Valerie. One of the most popular girls in my high school was a Valerie, nn Val (which is a nickname I love equally for boys & girls, right up there with Jamie). She was really sweet to everyone and I have fond memories of her.

As an alternative to Valerie, I had an Aunt named Valeriana (nature name)that she simplified to Valeria (Old Roman name) and she went by Ria as a nickname. I like Ria as a nickname but am totally in love with Val; it's spunky, sweet and a bit tomboyish in feel while Valerie (or Valeria) is elegant. But Ria is an option if you go with Valeria.

I think I have told you before but I LOVE the name Jillian Paige. I like the name Valerie but am not fond of nn's. I would just call her Valerie. Good luck!

I also think Valerie is a sweet choice. It's uncommon, but not weird. I can picture Valerie as almost any type of girl, too -- intelligent, popular, tomboyish, etc. Val is a decent nn, but I prefer Valerie, too.

(I guess I see Val like Steph. I always introduce myself as Stephanie, but most of my friends call me Steph.)

Anyway, I think Valerie goes very well with your other kids' names, too. The only Valerie I knew was about 15 years ago, and she was only about a year old then with two big brothers -- Trent and Tyler. She was such a sweetie!

Thanks for the input all....It's nice to see people like the name! Of course it makes me make a decision that I thought I had made already! lol I don't mind the NN Val I was just looking for options I guess :-) Thanks for your thoughts everyone!

I like it a lot. It is certainly pretty & different, but not weird. Michael, Jillian, & Valerie totally work for siblings too. I'm not sure of any nns really other than Val or Valley.

It has a pretty sound, I don't like the nickname Val, she doesn't have to have a nickname, but I haven't heard of any Valerie's for a long time. It's sort of outdated without being a classic/traditional

It's not "old-aunt" sounding, though, either. It has potential. I myself probably wouldn't bite on it, but it's not one I'd think 'yuck' to if I heard it on a baby

good luck

I love Valerie! It is one of those stand-out names to me: familiar but not used too often anymore. It is sweet but not frilly. Great name. I think Jillian and Valerie are really fantastic as sisters as well.

Nickname ideas:

Allie *

Ellie (although that is pretty popular right now)

Ree (more of a cutesey nickname)

Middle name ideas:

Valerie Brooke

Valerie Hope

Valerie Claire

Valerie Anne

Valerie Susanne

Valerie Faith

Valerie Belle

What a nice name.
