We're considering naming our baby with the combinations of both grandma's names. Karen and Laura making Klara.
My question is do you have a better idea or should we reconsider because we are butchering the spelling? I did find it spelled that way in a name book, but just wanted to run it past you all.
Thank you.

Klara with a "k" is not that unusual, but you will probably have to correct the spelling to people quite often.
Other ideas using Karen and Laura:
Kara
Lauren
Laken
Lara
Kayla
I like Klara a lot, but my name is not spelled the traditional way and even when I spell my name for people they still get it wrong.
Hello and congrats....How about....
Lauren
Laurel
Kara
Kiara
Klara is find how about honoring them by intitials K.L. or L.K.
Good luck
Lisa
Klara is a proper spelling -- it is eastern european... I know a Hungarian woman named Klara.
Another option would be Cora/Kora.
I really like the name Kara, too!
I have to go with the majority here - I think Lauren (a choice I love for mine but DH doesn't, LOL) is lovely, and Kara is also cute, and I think is long overdue for a comeback in popularity.
I want to add, however, that if you are using the names to honor people, as long as they know, then no matter what you choose, even if it doesn't resemble either original name, they will be very pleased !
I love the idea of honoring your mothers! :-) I like the idea of Klara... on one hand, the spelling does look a little "different" or somewhat "off", but yet on the other hand, it doesn't look like you were trying to get cre8tiv b/c there are many different cultures that use the K instead of a C. In my own family, I have an uncle Karl and that side of the family has German/Czechoslovakian heritage. So that's what it looks like to me spelled that way- Klara. I kind of like it. :-)
If you're looking for other alternatives, how about these:
Laurenna
Kalara
Kara
Karenna
Lara
Larena
Just some ideas, I'm sure there are more....
Best wishes to you!
