When you hear the name Addison, do you think of it as a girl's or boy's name? TIA!

Whenever there is a "son" at the end of the name, that means "son of..." Addison is definitely a girl's name to me, but seems really trendy and too close to Madison or Allison.

I actually think of it as validly unisex because I know both boys and girls with the name, all younger children (kind of like Jordan in that way). I think it is becoming more popular for girls, though.

Honestly? Boy's name. I don't think something that literally means "son of" can be a feminine name.

That's not to say you can't use it for a girl, obviously -- it's quite popular, following along on Madison's tails -- but if it's simply Addie that appeals I much prefer Adeline, Adelia, Adele, Adela, Adelaide, etc. (and actually love Ada, Della, Dilly or Delia as a nn for most of those). ;)

So in practice, a name that's used for either gender, but as far as actual origin/meaning is concerned, it's a completely masculine name.

HTH, either way. ;)

I much prefer it on a boy.

I used to think of a boy (& I still do think it should be a boy's name) but now I think of a girl. Grey's Anatomy has really turned it into a girl's name.

I think unisex because I know both boys and girls named Addison - and I think to further complicate matters it's way too close to the overly-popular Madison now
