I like the name Addison, with nicknames Addie, Addy. But, Addison comes up as a boys name meaning "Adam, Earth." What do you think about using Addision for a girl?

By the way, I'm new.

To me, Addison is 100% GIRL! I want to use it, but have this thing against giving my children the same initials.

THANK YOU! You all made me feel a bit better. I love the name and I'll stick with it, if it's a girl. Thanks again!

I consider Addison a boy's name.

I suppose if you want the nn Addie, name a girl Adelle.

I agree with mom2rhay. Addison is a last name which means "Son of Adam", but if it had to be used for either gender I would say its a boys name. It's also the name of the disease: http://www.niddk.nih.gov/health/endo/pubs/addison/addison.htm

I have to say that I am pretty sure it started out as mainly a boy's name about ten or more years ago, but judging by all the girl Addisons/nn Addys I have known in ten years of teaching in early childhood-----it's a girl's name and a cute one at that.

Hope this helps!

Eh, I don't like it. To me it is primarly a disease (like naming your child diabetes) the name of which came from the last name of the man who discovered it, then a boy's name. I can't really see it on a girl at all. I guess it rhymes with the uber-popular Madison so that it is why it is becoming a trendy girls name.

Addison has definitely turned into a girls' name. I, however, like it for a boy. The meanings I found all said it meant "son of Adam". So, though I like it for a boy, I wouldn't use it for a boy since it's really a girls' name now. (But I wouldn't use it for a girl either!)

I totally agree with everything aidensmum said. It's a masculine boys' name that's turned into a trendy girls' name. I also think of Addisons's Disease.
