Hi there- I am 29 wks pg with my second ds. I love the name Adrian for a boy but my dh and mother keep saying it is a sissy name or a girl name. what are your initial reactions to seeing that name?
I know Adrienne for a girl and Adrianne for a girl, but Adrian is the boys spelling...
What do you guys think????
I am at a loss!

thanks!

My initial reaction is what a refreshing change from the now tired Aiden. I think it a great choice. There is something lyrical about it. Yes, Adrienne is the female version, so that accounts for some people thinking Adrian is girlish, but Adrian is definitely a boy's name.

Here's another hint: should you decide to forego Adrian for another name, don't tell your mother! Once the baby is named, she'll either be pleasantly surprised (because she never liked Adrian), or she'll (hopefully) keep her mouth shut because you've already named her grandson. People always feel free to offer unsolicited opinions on name possibilities. They usually have the tact to keep quiet about names when they are already attached to the babies.

Good luck!

I started liking the name Adrian after watching the series Monk but I have to agree that I do think female when I first hear it but that may just be me.
Good luck to you!

I think people will think of Rocky yelling for Adriennne at first but I liek the name for a boy. Its different with out being out there. I knew a nice boy in elementary school named Adrian (italian last name I believe) and he was te only Adrian I have ever met. I like it

I don't think it is sissy. I would necessarily choose it, but I don't hate it.

Bring'em to England - there's a man named Adrian every few miles or so and I've yet to meet a 'sissy' one.

I love it! One of my favorite boy names. I would compare it to Julian, which also sounds like Julianne, but Julian sounds so intellectual, smoldering, sexy to me. Adrian is an awesome boys name, not sissy at all IMO. It is also in the top 75 boys names in 2003, making it more popular than Cole, Lucas or Owen. While Adrienne or Adrianne is not even in the top 500 for girls.

It is not one of my favorites, but I see it as more of a boy's name.

I had a student once and his name was Adrian. I loved it and I never thought of it as a sissy name. He was a very smart boy so I thought of it as sophisticated!

Go for it!! Danielle
