Adrian for a boy...first thoughts?
| Sun, 01-30-2005 - 11:41pm |
Hi there- I am 29 wks pg with my second ds. I love the name Adrian for a boy but my dh and mother keep saying it is a sissy name or a girl name. what are your initial reactions to seeing that name?
I know Adrienne for a girl and Adrianne for a girl, but Adrian is the boys spelling...
What do you guys think????
I am at a loss!
thanks!

My initial reaction is what a refreshing change from the now tired Aiden. I think it a great choice. There is something lyrical about it. Yes, Adrienne is the female version, so that accounts for some people thinking Adrian is girlish, but Adrian is definitely a boy's name.
Here's another hint: should you decide to forego Adrian for another name, don't tell your mother! Once the baby is named, she'll either be pleasantly surprised (because she never liked Adrian), or she'll (hopefully) keep her mouth shut because you've already named her grandson. People always feel free to offer unsolicited opinions on name possibilities. They usually have the tact to keep quiet about names when they are already attached to the babies.
Good luck!

Good luck to you!
I don't think it is sissy. I would necessarily choose it, but I don't hate it.

Bring'em to England - there's a man named Adrian every few miles or so and I've yet to meet a 'sissy' one.
It is not one of my favorites, but I see it as more of a boy's name.

Hi,
LOVE Adrian for a boy!
I had a student once and his name was Adrian. I loved it and I never thought of it as a sissy name. He was a very smart boy so I thought of it as sophisticated!
Go for it!! Danielle
