There are some non-A names that Allie could be a nn for, as well:

You may also like a similar alternative like Halle/Hallie, Molly or Sarah (nn Sally). ;)

I've heard Allie as a nickname for Alexandra. I could also see it as a nickname for Alicia, Alla or Alia (I know these as Russian names, but I'd guess that they are used in other languages, as well), or Aaliyah/Aliya.
This is nothing more than my opinion, but I would not use Allie as a first name; to me, it sounds insubstantial as a first name - it doesn't sound to me like a name that would fit as well in adulthood as in childhood. But I think it's cute for a nickname at any age.

Allie was my grandma's name-just Allie-she was born in 1900. I named my DD Alexandra with the intention of calling her Allie, but we call her by her full name.
