Hey guys, It's Casey here,

I have a question for you guys, Riorden Turned one month old 3 days ago. His full name is Riorden Shaynne. Now I have 2 brothers and a sister and my husband has 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Now my Brothers and my husbands brothers, who we are all VERY close with have started calling him Shay. I have no problem with it, except that now my two boys call him shay too! I have no problem with the name Shay, I think it's cute I just don't want Brennan and Braidyn to thik his name is Shay b/c thats what their uncles call him. At home we call him Riorden or Rory, but the twins have just started talking a lot and they have been calling him shay a lot, I don't even know if it is bothering me or not but I just wanted to ask what you guys think. Should it be bothering me ? I'm probrably just nuts but when he is older i don't care b/c then all the boys know his name is riorden and they can call him whatever they want! But i just don't want them to be confused> Do you understand or am I crazy...lol probrably crazy!

Thans in Advance

First, I think Shay is a girls name, and I dont think that I would like it too much. And second, why would they pick a NN that was from his MN?

I think that I would keep calling him your NN Rory when you are around the uncles. Maybe they will get the hint when you dont follow the whole "Shay" pattern. This way, you dont hurt any feelings by asking them to quit. I dont feel you need to do that because it seems as the only mean the best. Plus its nice to have personal NN from different people. And then when you are at home, keep telling the twins, RORY. Dont ever just say brother, him, etc. Or when they say Shay, say "yes, RORY SHAYNNE" They will get it one of these days! LOL Best of luck!!

I think the name Shay is ok. I do have to say that is does sound like a girl name but its up to you. It all depends if you like the name Shay. Good Luck!

I have experienced the very situation of which you write, only I am on the other end of things.

My nephew, who is 19 months old, is named Cole.

Nicknames that come from nowhere are neat-individual. Yes its a little odd, but I doubt he'll be stuck with it for life.
