What do you think of the name Amaryllis? I seem to have a thing for quirky plant/flower names...another favorite name of mine is Juniper. What do you think of Mary as a nn for it....do you like Lissa, Rylla, or Amy better than Mary? Sorry, lots of questions!

Love it! It is wonderfully quirky :) I guess I would use Mary for a nn. I also like Amy, or Ama.

I don't really care for Amaryllis, but the nn Mary is very cute. Also like Lissa.

Amaryllis is not really my style, however I do like the nn Mary, Amy, or Lissa. I'm not crazy about Rylla though.

HTH!

I really like Amaryllis. I think it's really pretty. I would use nn Ammie/Ammy as opposed to Amy, since Amaryllis is not pronounced with the long A sound at the beginning like Amy is. (Unless I'm mistaken Amaryllis starts with the short A sound; doesn't it?) Kind of like Amarillo (Texas)?

Anywho, there's my two cents. Sorry if I pronounced it wrong! :)

I think this is a beautiful name... It was a cute little girl character in The Music Man I believe... So I picture a very cute, precocious little girl with her hair in little braids or pigtails. I think it would do find w/o a nickname, but out of the ones you listed, I like Amy best, then Mary. (Or even Maris? I know it's not exactly short for it, but it goes...)

My DS loves the movie The Music Man, so I think of Marian the Librarian's piano tutor! I think it is a quirky cute old-fashioned name, probably because of that movie, and I like Rilla as a nn. Go for it, it's quite unusual but still old-fashioned, just my style ;-)

I absolutely LOVE Amaryllis! Mary's a perfectly fine nickname for it but I'd probably use Lissa, pulling it from the last syllable. Whichever nn you go with, Amaryllis is just beautiful!

JMHO, as always

OH, I absolutely LOVE this name! I had forgotten all about it until you mentioned it! I think it is absolutely beautiful! :-) :-) :-) It is just so lilting and lovely!

I wouldn't use the nn Mary, though...I don't think it does the name justice. Amaryllis is so unique and outstanding, and Mary is kind of...plain. I might suggest Mara or Mari, or Lissie?

Best of luck to you!

It's sounds beautiful and the nn Rylla is cute, but I just don't see it as a human name.

Sorry, I don't like it at all. Normally I don't mind flower names, but this one is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Flower names I'd choose above Amaryllis include:

Iris

Petunia

Marigold

Daisy

Violet

Lily

Rose

Rudbeckia (never heard it used as a name, but I still prefer it to Amaryllis)

Alyssum

Rosemary

Columbine

Ginger

Delphinium

Coreopsis

Flora

Ok, some aren't technically flowers, but all go with the botanical theme.
