Hey everyone,

We have still not chosen a name for baby #3 but we have narrowed it down a lot to only a few names for a girl or boy. One name I really like but need advice on is Amelia.

Firstly, I have a neice called Emily (nn Milly) so do you think that Emily and Amelia are too similar? Also I really love the nn Milly for Amelia but cant use that because of my neice so what do you think of using the nn Mia?

Secondly, we are probably going to use the mn Florence for my Gran who passed away recently but do you think Amelia Florence is too long (our surname has 3 syllables).

Thirdly, our surname begins with M so do you think Mia M_____ or Amelia M _______ would sound OK?

Would love your opinion.

TIA xxx

I LOVE Amelia. I think it's a great name. It's definitely on my list for possible names for a future daughter, and if I do use it, I'd use Mia as a nn. I LOVE Mia, but was never terribly wild about using it as a full name and didn't love Maria, so I'd sort of ruled it out. When I realized it could be a nn for Amelia, I was thrilled.

I think Amelia Florence is a great combination and I don't think it's too long at all. Amelia is three syllables, but it's only six letters, so it really doesn't look that long. And the 3-2 syllable combination is by far my favorite. I think 3-2 always flows so nicely.

As for the M last name, I think as long as your name does not also contain an L (ie Miller) you should be find. The alliteration of the M actually sounds very pretty.

I think Amelia Florence sounds fine. Emily and Amelia are similar - but not too close for cousins.

I like the nn Mia - but also like Amy or no nickname at all. Whether Mia M sounds okay or not would depend on your last name. Something like Mia Miller might be too rhymey - but Mia Morgison sounds just fine.

i love Amelia!
Milly is great choice nn, how often are your around your niece?
my nephew & a (the same-age group) cousin have the same fn/nn and
isnt a problem with anyone..i've known others who have the same family names.
however, Mia is a great nn i love Mia!
so many possibilities with Amelia
* Amy, Lia/Lea, Mia, Miya, Maya, Milly/Millie/Mily,
Mela, Melia, Ali, Elle, Alia, Elia... *
would you probably call her Mia, but offically go by Amelia? either way is fine!
Amelia/Mia Florence M........ sounds great!!! is beautiful.

First of all, I don't think Amelia and Emily are too close for cousins, and although I too like the nn Millie, Mia is nice as well. Amelia Florence M(last name) sounds very nice to me, not too long or too repeating with the M's. I like it. I have been hearing Amelia quite a bit on these msg boards lately though, so be aware that the name could become much more popular.

I LOVE Amelia, and Mia is a cute nn.

I wouldn't worry about your neice's name. They are not that close of names. Plus, the girls may not be very close cousins when they are grown up.

Go for the name you love.

I like the combo and don't think you have anything to worry about! Go for it for sure! We have a neice named Emily and just had a new one added--Emma. So if Emily and Emma are not too close for cousins, than Amelia and Emily are just fine!
