Amelie? Name for Polish last name

We are 2 weeks out and still haven't found our girls name. Please tell me what you think! I can't decide anymore. I have a Jackson Theodore Rozowski already, and am looking for his little sister's name. I want a name that will be interesting, not too difficult to spell or pronounce, not a top 50 name, and something that means something positive. (Theodore is gift from God). I was sure I was going with Marie as a middle name to honor my grandmother, but now since I think I want Amelie, I don't think that will work. Our names, in order are...

Amelie
Evelyn Marie
Josephine Marie
Madeline
Sophie Marie

I would really like a mn for Amelie or Madeline that would go with Rozowski. Or do I want to go with Evelyn? I think it sounds a bit old. I love the nickname of Evie. I also am not sure what a nickname would be for Amelie! Why do they let preggos women make these decisions??? I am crazy enough already!

Thanks!

Rozowski (roz-OW-ski?) is your ln, correct? If so, and if I'm pronouncing it correctly, I have to say the similar endings of Amelie Rozowski would bother me, although I love the name itself. What about Amalia or Amelina/Amalina or even Emmeline?

As to the others:

Evelyn Marie -- love it! This is my favorite for you ... and I wouldn't worry about it sounding "old." Old is in! Just look at the top ten. Almost every name listed would have been considered old-sounding a decade or two ago. Little Evelyn fits right in without being too popular. Especially with the nn Evie. ;) If it still concerns you, you could go with a more "modern" sounding version like Eveline or Evangeline.

Josephine Marie -- I don't like it with your ln or your son's name (I'm not much for matching initials ... I think it takes away from the individual beauty of each name).

Madeline -- if you don't want an overly-popular name, this one probably isn't for you. It's almost in the top 50, and probably will be when this year's lists come out. With the half a dozen other spellings on the SSA's list, this one's actually around top 25 already, not to mention being similar to/sharing a nn with Madison, the third most popular name in the country.

Sophie Marie -- Ditto Madeline. It's not "exactly" Sophia, but it's pretty close, and Sophia was number 11 on the SSA list last year (not including other spellings, like Sofia, which put it in the top 6 or so)

Kelli took the words right out of my mouth. I agree with everything she said. I love Evelyn for you. I think it's perfect!

Amelie - beautiful name. I definately suggest looking into your family tree to find a mn. Otherwise, I like Amelie Corinne or Amelie Nicola
Evelyn Marie- very pretty and classic
Josephine Marie- beautiful. I love Josephine, it is gorgeous and underused. Would you use nn Josie? I love that.
Madeline- too trendy. Defintaely my least favourite of your list. I have heard of *so* many little Maddies lately
Sophie Marie- prefer Sophia Marie, but this is nice too. It is rising quickly in popularity

My faves for you with Jackson Theodore are Amelia Corinne and Josephine Marie.

Thanks for the replies! Since I am southern I pronounce the last name "ro Zow ski". I just know she will be spelling the darn thing for people her whole life and I don't think she should have to spell her first name too. So that makes me sad for the Amelie, since it is more unusual. I was looking in my baby names book and came up with

Amelie Grace Rozowski which I think is pretty solid. Hubbie likes it too. I know Grace is very popular right now but as a mn I don't think I care so much.

I also agree with that Evelyn Marie is really beautiful. I would hate to not use Marie but if I used Grace I don't think my gramma would mind. I guess I should sleep on it and see what hits me.

Thanks to you all!

I thought that was how I was pronouncing Rozowski. LOL Still, it was just the "ski" ending that rhymes with the "lie" ending of Amelie that would bother me ... that's why I suggested the -a and -ine ending alternatives.

As far as Grace vs. Marie, which are both extremely common filler mns, I'd much prefer Marie, since it's for your grandmother and is probably much less common than Grace at this point.

i like amelie as well - why not simply modify marie to maria? amelie maria sounds beautiful, i think, and essentially it's the same name, so you can still honor your grandmother.

I didn't read thru the other responses, so much of this could be repeats

I don't think Amelie Marie is all that bad - I realize you're repeating the M sound if that's where your concern is, but the placement of the L in Amelie is taking the pressure off the double M sound

possible nn for Amelie would be Amy or Amlee as if you just kinda skip the middle part

I'm not an Evelyn (Evie) fan, but Marie sounds fine with that also

I don't like alliteration, so Marie is out for Madeline - I see Josephine is one of your choices, while I think that in itself is too much with madeline, how about a version of that - Madeline Josette

as far as Josephine as a first name, Josephine Marie sounds fine, I guess the nn would be Josie - Josephine just seems so old fashioned to me

Sophie - too much of an nn - if you're going to use this, you should make it Sophia Marie and call her Sophie if you want

good luck

Hello and congrats on expecting!

I have been where you are! It is especially difficult to name a daughter AFTER a son, trust me!

In the end, she'll have a beautiful name that you love.

Your list is great, but I have problems with them for you.

Here's why:

Amelie - I adore this name! It's the best one on your list too, given your criteria. Normally, I wouldn't go for the same ending sound on fn and ln. Since your ln is so long, it doesn't bother me so much. HOWEVER, I think you SHOULD use a family mn (Marie). If using Amelie means not using a family mn, then I would scratch the name. I wouldn't nn Amelie, personally, but Amy, Meme/Mimi/Lee/or Ali would be acceptable, IMO.

Evelyn Marie- Since you don't want Top 50, this one is out for me. It's also

Thanks for your encouragement! It is amazing how hard it is to pick a name! I am still down to Amelie Marie or Evelyn Marie. I can't decide which one I like better. Hubbie likes Amelie best. I have thrown it out to a few people and they haven't heard of it which means trouble for the little girl later on. She's goign to have such a problem with our weirdish last name that I don't want to burden her with a hard first name too. But I think Amelie is so pretty! We are inducing next week so I will report back with the final decsion!

Thanks again!
