DH is DEAD SET on naming our daughter Amy. In all honesty, what are your thoughts on the name (besides the fact that it very well may be YOUR name)? ; )

Thanks!

Because of the proliferation of nicknaming, I see Amy moving back up slightly, already!
It has a simple charm about it, if you think of the name in and of itself and not the five or six you were seated next to in class in 1985! Just enough time has passed for folks to be able to view it apart from whom they knew, I think.

Funny thing about it- it was the 2nd most popular name of the entire decade of the 1970d in America- yet it doesn't scream 1970 like Jennifer, Lisa, Stephanie, etc.

I think this is because it is an OLD name and again, has that -ee ending/nicknamey feel to it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is- you could do a lot worse.

Perhaps you could warm to a more formal name with an Amy nn-
Amelia, Amanda, Miranda, Amity, Araminta

Or even as a double name, to spice it up a bit-
Amy Beth, Amy Lynn, Amy Clare, Amy Rose, Amy Leigh, Amy Rae, etc.

Best wishes, Ginger

My name is Amy and I went through a phase where I hated it, but now I love it. Even though it was super popular when I was growing up, it doesn't really scream 70's. My mom actually chose it because of the character in "Little Women", so clearly it wasn't a new name then. She had no idea how popular it was (I was born and raised in a small town) until I started going to Sunday School and there were two other Amys in my class. LOL. I like the fact that it's not so popular now and if it wasn't already my name, I wouldn't rule it out for a baby name.
