A neighbor of mine just named their newborn daughter Jasper Ilene. Has Jasper gone to the girls too or is this just a fluke? Jasper's 2 year old brother is Micah Jude.

Wow ... that one doesn't even SOUND feminine. I've heard Micah considered for a girl a few times, but not Jasper! Guess those sibs are in for some confusion. hehe

Seeing a name like that just makes me think either the parents heard the name, thought it was "pretty" for some reason and honestly had no idea about it's origin or "gender" or that they thought they'd made it up themselves (how creative of them! ROFL) ... like they liked Jasmine, but thought it was too common for them, so they tried to put a twist on it and accidentally ended up with a male name. Oops. LMAO Pretty bad either way.

I think it is a fluke - but then again there are no rules. In my mind Micah is a girls name, since I only know girls with that name. From this board I have learned that it is more unisex. So who really knows these days :)

I've never heard Jasper for a girl- it'd be sad if it started to be used for girls b/c I think it's a nice boy's name. Maybe since jasper is a type of gemstone the parents thought that it would be a girls' name, since others like opal, ruby, amethyst, etc. are girls' names??? Maybe I should name my daughter Onyx, LOL!
