Well to be honest the first thing i think of is Senator Joseph McCarthy, who was not a pleasant man by any stretch of the imagination and your child will most certainly learn about in any US History class. http://mccarthy.cjb.net

I think it is great that you are trying to honor your grandmother, but think it would be best to stick this in as a mn, where it would sound fine. Good luck!

I personally think it's a great idea, maybe more for a MN, and the name is common enough not to necessarily be associated with one particular person.

Mac(k) commonly comes from Mc names. My grandpa's last name was McCullough and he went by Mac. My fil's & DH's middle name is McClelland and they both go by Mack. GL!

My maiden name is a McC name. I think using Mac as a nn is fine. What is the last name? Another option would be to give him McCarthy as his middle name.
