Another question about double names

When you give a child a double first name (John David or Mary Beth for example) would you also give them a middle name? And if so, when you pronounce the name aloud, do you say the double name together with a pause before the middle name (John-David *pause* Neil Smith) or do you say each name as though it were in a list (John David Neil Smith)?

I'm considering a double name for our little one. If I decide to go with a double name, he or she will also have a middle name, which will be his or her Chinese name. I can't imagine that I would be saying his or her whole name to people very often, but I would leave a very small pause between John David, on the one hand, and Neil, on the other. Actually, because there are so few double names where I live, if I go with a double name, I anticipate saying a fair amount: "His first name is John David," as in, "It's so good to see you, Ms. Jones. This is my son -- his first name is John David." It's not the most natural thing in the world to say, but I got the idea from someone else on this board, and it's truly the ONLY way I can imagine that people will understand (where I live, at least) that he's called "John David," not just "John," i.e., that David is not a middle name.

I wouldn't give him/her a middle name, but I generally don't like three or more given names anyway.

For me, it would depend on what I wanted the rest of the world to do.

I have a double name (Anne Marie) and my middle name is a family surname. Never had any issues (note, for my monogram I use the first letter of my first name, middle initial and surname ... the "Marie" loses out here). Name your baby what you like.
