Annie has inspired me to search for more names. My favorite names are: Iris Rebecca and Leo Thomas. Sometimes I change my mind on the boy name, but Iris Rebecca is mostly a constant :-) I can't think of a third name to round out the group. I kind of like Nora and Celia for a girl. But Nora seems a little heavy next to Iris. And with Celia...I am just not sure. The mn for the girl will be Elizabeth (my mother's fn and my mn). At one point I thought I would do Elizabeth Brooke, nn Libby. However, I have seen LOTS of little Libby's these days. Also, I am afraid that Libby will not age well. I think it would be hard to switch from Libby to formal Elizabeth. For a boy I am at a total loss. The mn will be William, Simon, or Dawson (I am leaning towards Dawson). My ln is 2 syllables and it starts with a B.

Any ideas?

TIA,
Brooke

Nora doesn't feel heavy to me at all.

I think Iris and Nora also sound nice together. However, I do love Elizabeth! Even though it is super popular, it's also so classic. I love Leo! I also love that you like it as a full, given name and not a nickname for something else. Leo is definitely on my boy list. How about Leo and...Darby, Elliot, Finn, Simon. Good luck.

How about Silja (pronounced Celia)? It´s a Finnish name. Silja Elizabeth.

Or Illusia Elizabeth. (il-lucy-uh)

Or Inka Elizabeth?

There might be some repeats (haven't read the other replies yet ), but with Iris and Leo ...

  • Gwen
  • Nola - perhaps not with Elizabeth, but it was my first thought when you mentioned Nora
  • Daphne
  • Mary
  • Delia
  • Della
  • Adele
  • Clara
  • Darla
  • Viola
  • Enid
  • Pearl
  • Opal
  • Ruby ;)
  • Jane
  • Ada
  • Matilda - not as short, I know, but I could totally see Iris, Leo and Matilda ;)

You know I think that I need to reconsider Eliza. Eliza Brooke or Eliza Jane sounds very nice and I know my mother would love it :-)

Ruby is too cute! I will have to think about that one.

Matilda - As a child I always like Madeline, but now it is too popular when combined with Madison. However, Matilda might be a great alternative. I really do like the idea of Tilly or Tally as nicknames.

Nola - hmm...I will have to think about this one. I like that it has the same spunk as Nora. I know the future is hard to predict, but do you think it will ever make a come back? Nola hasn't been in the top 1000 for years.

Ruby - This is adorable! I hadn't ever thought about it. People generally dislike sib sets that are word names - would Iris and Ruby be looked down on?

Hugh and Heath are food for thought.

Thanks,
Brooke

Ooh, then I love Matilda for you! ;) It has a very similar feel to Madeline in my mind, with an added bit of spunk, and I love that it's familiar without being popular at all (huge plus!). I love Tilly or even Millie as far as nns are concerned.

Nola - hmm...I will have to think about this one. I like that it has the same spunk as Nora. I know the future is hard to predict, but do you think it will ever make a come back? Nola hasn't been in the top 1000 for years.

Hard to say. It's possible it will make it back into the top 1000 -- riding along on the Irish(y) names trend (Fiona's already in the top 400, so Finola/Nola doesn't seem a huge step in my mind) -- but I don't see it becoming overly-popular at all. Also, this name has the advantage of a modern, feminine sound that works with many of today's trends, even if it isn't common itself. In other words, familiar enough not to seem odd, but different enough not to become too popular.

Ruby - This is adorable! I hadn't ever thought about it. People generally dislike sib sets that are word names - would Iris and Ruby be looked down on?

I don't think it's the word names in general -- more the matchy, cutesy sib sets that tend to be overkill. Lily, Rose and Violet or Hope and Faith,
