as you had more children? I was just thinking about this and thought I'd post to see responses. When I was naming

I think it's gotten more difficult now that I'm pregnant with #3. With DD#1 we did end up with an up and comer with popularity though-- Lillian. I have loved the name for a long time though so that was definitely her name. With dd#2 we did choose a less popular -- Naomi. And now I'd like the same with #3 (edd Jan 10)

By the way I like your sons names. Calvin and Tobias are two I've tossed around.

Hmmm...well, I don't have children yet, but I've been thinking about what I would name them ever since I can remember. I think that my taste has certainly gotten better, mostly because I'm out of my "unique spelling" phase, and because I've become more aware of name popularity and name meaning. My name choices change often, but now, they're quite traditional and all have some family connection.

Example: My List from High School

Meghann
Kathleina
Jakob

My Current List:

Eliza Victoria
Francesca Ruth
Caroline Cordelia
India Charlotte
(Some of these have gotten a little popular, but I'm hoping their popularity dwindles by the time I have babies.)

Nathaniel Elijah (nn Nate...obviously, I love your Nathaniel)
Ezekiel Whittington (nn Zeke)

Nathaniel, Calvin, and Tobias is the best set of sibling names I have heard in a LONG time! :-)

We use the nn Nate for Nathaniel too. Thank you for saying they are well matched sibling names. I actually just had a nurse at the hospital hear their names and tell me they don't "go together" at all. I think she meant it as an observation, not an insult, (she said it was because they don't end with all the same sound or begin with all the same sound).

yes I think I got better. With my first (now 17) I really didn't look at books or lists. I adored "The Thorn Birds" and the name "Meggy" so my DD became Meaghan Danielle....with my DS two years later I just went to classic-Andrew Edward ( although he would have been Melanie Alexandra if he had been a girl...moving more toward my REAL style which is unusual but not "weird")....and if course now we have added Bridget Ila-Alison...the older 2 think she got the best name of all!

I just want to say that I am glad to hear from all of you who got better at naming. I only have one daughter so far, and she is only 8 months old, but honestly right now I worry about having another partly because I dont know how I could pick another name that I love half as much as I love my daughter's. I figure that by the time I am ready to have another my tastes will have grown and changed and hopefully I will be confident in my choice. So it is really good to hear that you all felt that way too.

I am such a broken record about this, sorry. I started off being very very wary of popular names and tried hard to avoid them. My RN is Chris and boy I hated being one of a million Chris' in my age group. I didn't want to pick a Moon Unit name either. My eldest son is Julian (14) and his brother is Keith (12). Since they have been in school over the years, I noticed just how many kids had the same names over and over and over and I felt like I made really solid choices and was happy I made them. PLEASE consider your kid having to be one of a million Isabelles or Emmas or Matthews. Its not fun for them. Further I know little kids whose parents gave them oddball spellings and these kids have to spell their names out loud over and over. Extra Ys and such is tedious for kids.

This baby I am doing plenty of research to assure I am not in Top 100 in the US or in my state. I am watching trends, cruising this board,

Just a question, how do you pronounce Selah and Asa? Selah is very pleasing to the eye, well, my eye anyhow, lol.

Selah -- See-lah

Asa -- A (long A, as in Abe)-sah
