Just wondering if there are any fellow e-pals from Pennsy and your thoughts on what names are way too popular right now in the Keystone State? I grew up with a million Jennifers and Amy's and I'm sure every generation has their popular names, etc.

Out toward Pittsburgh, we've got our fill of Emma's, Sophie/Sophia's, and Kay-whatever's (Caitlyn, Kaylee, etc), and Jake/Jacob's, Michael's, and Tyler's.

Victoria,

Okay, not sure how you feel about the whole wedding market but ... Philly has some incredible hotels that are well known for the weddings that are hosted there. Plus many of the hotels host conferences so maybe one of the local hotels may be in need of people for their marketing and event planning staff. Some that pop into mind are Loews, The Ritz-Carlton, The Four Seasons, The Bellevue, and the Downtown Marriott. There are several others as well.

You may also be able to break into advertising. Two years ago there was a firm in Cherry Hill, NJ that was featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer. It is called Star Advertising, I believe. I think they are still there. The building is fairly new and quite large. It's located on Route 38 not far from the Ben Franklin Bridge. There was also another ad firm in center city Philadelphia (I think it was on the same street and very close to the Bellevue Hotel). Not sure if it is still there and I can't remember the name. I used to work for the Eastern Regional office for AMC Theatres and when the office closed I remember the Marketing Director took a job with the ad firm in Philly.

I don't know a lot about the Marketing and Event Planning companies in the area. (I was going to school to be a teacher before I dropped out and kinda fell into the yucky world of Administrative Assistant. My last job was in an IT department for a small premium finance company. My dh is in the IT field so I know more about that than Marketing.) That being said, I'm not sure how familiar you are with this area but the biggest Corporate Centers seem to be around the King of Prussia area. Look at the towns around King of Prussia. The area has grown immensely in the lasy 10 years and there is so much going on there. Also, in South Jersey, you want to look in Cherry Hill, Mt. Laurel, and Moorestown. Lots of companies in those areas. Of course, center city Philadelphia has many companies as well but if you live and/or work in the city you will have to pay that God-aweful city wage tax which is much higher than the regular state taxes. I beleive there is quite a bit going on in the Willow Grove and surrounding towns too. (Off of Route 611 and 309).

Also, since you are rather into the marketing/event planning thing and you like to write, maybe you can check out some of the local TV and radio stations. KYW is located in the city. I know there are also TV and radio offices in Bala Cynwyd. PA (spelling?) . I know the radio station Q102 is located in Bala Cynwyd and I think the local ABC news station is there as well. That area also has a lot of other companies.

The Route 202 corridor, as it's known, is the IT hot spot in the area. A lot of those companies may have marketing or HR/Recruiting departments onsite.

If I think of anything specific I will let you know. I hope some of the ideas that I gave you help. We also have several colleges (state, community, university) and technical training schools in the area so you could probably find jobs with them doing career placement work similar to what you may be doing know.

Good Luck!

Your friends must live in Newtown, PA. That is near New Hope. Newtown Square is farther South closer to West Chester, PA. I used to think they were the one and the same until my dh explained the difference to me.

Victoria,

I believe Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA (30 mins west of philly) and Temple University (don't know which campus, but all are close to or in philly)are both hiring in their recruitment department. Check out www.careerbuilder.com. Use recruiting/colleges/ or anything you want in the subject area. HTH!
