Are the S's awkward?

After much debate we have decided on Miles for the name of our son. Great. Except I think it may sound awkward with our last name. Crews.

Miles Crews

Does it sound strange with the "S" sounds?

It sounds okay. But why don't you switch it to Miley Crews or Milo Crews instead.

Dude.

The name is just fine.

How often do you say your full name anyway.

Miley is a girls name, and Milo is the lead singer and cartoon on the descendents albums.

If you haven't figured it out, I'm the father of said child.

Our surname starts with an S, so we have some of the same issues with names ending in S. I think Miles Crews is pretty awkward. I guess it's not horrible, but I wouldn't use it. It also sort of merges together when you say it, sounding like "mile screws."
And I'm sorry to the dad, but your full name (without mn) is definitely used all the time. Particularly in formal contexts like writing a letter or a paper, applying for anything, accessing anything like prescriptions, accounts, interviews, etc. If your name is ever on a list, like a student honor roll, club list, employee list, etc, it will be your FN LN. Not to mention that people almost always refer to others by their FN LN when talking about them, whether it's a famous person, a coworker, a schoolmate, or an acquaintence. Saying it's rarely used is not the greatest argument.
How do you guys like Milo nn Miles?

As much as I love Miles, I would pair it with a last name that ends in an "s". Not just Miles- with your last name I wouldn't use ANY name that ends with an S. How about Milo Crews instead?

I think it depends on how much you like the name. If it the be all end all name for you and there is no way you could picture your son named anything but Miles. I say go for it. Its not the ideal first name-last name combo but you know its not horrible at all. I like to say names out loud like I am yelling it to the kid and it works alright. It doesn't come out all weird or run together to bad. If you aren't in love with the name them I think you could find something that would work better. I had to LOL at your husband. He is right Milo is a cartoon, If he is talking about the cartoon I think he is then its a a very weird cartoon to be named after. Plus I named my dog after that same cartoon. It was really late it and was the only thing on TV.

Good luck! Miles really is a great name and if I were you I'd use it.

It's not about the letter, it's about the sound. Miles Crews both end in 'z' sounds, Davis ends in an 's' sound.

Ok, this is my take on the matter. At first I didn't like it, but as I read this whole thread, it really grows on you. And frankly, you and DH are the only ones who have to like the name. It will grow on everyone else based on how they feel about the bearer (your son). When I met my DH, I hated his last name. Without giving out my last name, all I could think of was marshmallows. In fact, I immediately thought, "wow, if we ever have kids, we'd better not name any girls Marcia". Eventually though, his name grew on me a lot and now I really like it a lot more than I liked my maiden name. I really think you should stick with Miles because that's a great name, and honestly, Crews is a pretty cool last name too, and I think their spunkiness levels compliment eachother.
