are these names interesting or too odd

Hi there,
Well, what do you all think of the following names:
Girl:
Karina/Karena
Persephone
Prianka (it's (Asian) Indian)
Lourdes
Miriam
Mallory
Siriol/Sierian (Welsh)
Imogen
Adelaide
Chantal
Manon
Sabine (allietx529, this was added to the list before your comment)
Darrell
Boy:
Soren
Leland
Alastair
Peyton
Adlai
Everett
Alain
Lionel
Diederik (only problem is the probability of Rick as a nickname)
Admittedly, one of the goals was uniqueness without being arbitrary (cf the (generally) much discussed Kaleesha/Lateesha style names), another was an ... atmosphere we found felicitous.
Well, eager for your comments.

Karina/Karena -- LOVE this. I think this name is so pretty and underused. K names are REALLY trendy right now though, so if you really want her to stand out, I'd choose something that doesn't start with K.
Persephone -- this one is a bit much for me. I do adore names from mythology, and this one might grow on me, but I just think it's too odd. Some similar names I love: Penelope, Thalia, Medea, Pallas, Isis, Diana, Cassanda, Calliope, Calista, Phoebe, Athena, Electra, Avalon
Prianka -- this could grow on me. I like that it honors your heritage.
Lourdes -- I like this one, but it evokes an image of a very religious (Catholic) family. That's fine if you, but if you aren't it would seem strange.
Miriam -- I love this. It's so pretty underused. I wouldn't give her a real nickname, but I like Mimi as an occassional endearment.
My favorites are Karina and Miriam
Boy:
Soren -- I like this a lot
Leland -- okay. This one is really popular on the board, but something about it rubs me the wrong way. I have a very negative image (Southern redneck) associated with it. I'm not sure why.
Alastair -- love, love, love this. It's on my short list. It's strong and handsome and incredibly undiscovered.
Peyton -- eh. this one is not nearly as strong as your other names. This is actually fairly popular right now and feels very trendy. I know quite a few Peytons and most of them are girls.
Adalai -- Do you mean Adlai? I've never seen the Adalai spelling. I love Adlai. The "Add-" names (Addison, Adelaide, Adeline, Addie etc) are pretty popular for girls right now and rising, so this might get swept up in this. To the uninformed, it sounds unisex. (That doesn't bother me, but it's something to consider if that does bother you.)
My favorites are: Alastair, Adlai and Soren
Girl:
Karina/Karena - I like the name and the 1st spelling better
Persephone - pretty!
Prianka (it's (Asian) Indian) - different, not too bad
Lourdes - don't like it at all
Miriam - it's okay, but not my style
Boy:
Soren - I don't like it
Leland - it's ok
Alastair - ok, but not my style
Peyton - nice name
Adalai - looks girl-ish
Girl:
Karina/Karena: I like both of these.
Persephone: I like mythological names, but I do think that this one is a bit much.
Prianka (it's (Asian) Indian): Like this, is it pronounced how it looks?
Lourdes: Not a fan. Reminds me of Madonna.
Miriam: Really love this one, not too popular. DH wasn't crazy about it, but it was on my short list.
Favs: Miriam, Karina, Prianka.
Boy:
Soren: Really like this.
Leland: nms
Alastair: It's okay.
Peyton: Way too popular, and used for girls more and more.
Adalai: nmsaa
Fav: Soren
Evelyn Rae

Expecting a BOY Fall 2010
Karina/Karena-I am pronoucing this as KA-reena....is that correct? If so I prefer Carena
Persephone-nms but a nice unique name thats not "out there"
Prianka (it's (Asian) Indian)-nmsaa to hard to pronounce
Lourdes-I kinda like it, again nms but not out there
Miriam-nice sweet, simple..not unheard of but not overly popular
Boy:
Soren-nmsaa, not a fan of anything with Sore in it
Leland-honestly all I picture is a backwoods country boy, so I dunno
Alastair-I don't know what to say to this one, its not bad but its NMSAA
Peyton-well if unique is what you want I would say NO...Peyton is very popular well atleast here in my area
Adalai-I am saying ADA(like the girl name) LAY...so I would say no if thats the pronouncation....
Dawn
I love Karina from your girls list, I think it is different but still recognizable. From your boys list I love Peyton. Some people find it girly, but my cousin is Dillon Peyton and he is 16 years old. So I like it for a boy. I also know a little boy named Peyton who is 3.

For the most part, I like your choices and consider them interesting without being odd.
Persephone is a real exception, however. Persephone's abduction by and forced marriage to Hades is often called "The Rape of Persephone." A google search of Persephone matches it with the word "rape" over and over again. Interesting as the myth itself is, I find this unpleasant. (I have the same issue with Sabine, btw.) It's too bad, because I've always loved this myth.
Adalai would be interesting if it were Adlai. Adalai, though, is a little odd. I'm not sure how it should be pronounced or if it is an intentional misspelling of Adlai.
GL,
Allie
Any of those names would do the job you're looking for. I personally love Miriam and Alastair.
Alastair Soren and Miriam Karina?
Karen
Thanks, all, for your comments.
allietx529, you're right in re Persephone (and Sabine)...
To answer your questions:
Karina - I think the stress is on the middle syllable
Prianka - phonetic (pre-unc-a) (unc as in uncle)
wrt Adalai, I meant Adlai (a la Stevenson)
Why is it so much easier to come up w/ girls' names than boys'?

I do like Sören, the original spelling for Soren and it is pronounced Sir-en and not Soore-en.
I would go for
