Are they really that bad??
| Fri, 03-23-2007 - 1:08pm |
I'm due in August and I have different names picked out. So far though, nobody but my hubby and I like them. I think they are nice and unique... but I'm getting comments from everyone on how I should change my choices...
For a boy I like Ronan Michael
And for a girl Logan Marie

No, they're not bad! They're not even very unusual. If people are telling you, for example, that Logan is a "strange" name for a girl, then they clearly haven't been paying attention to what people are naming their kids nowadays, just to what they *assume* people name their kids. Boy names for girls, unisex names, and surnames are all trendy; for example, Aidan is a classic boys' name that now gets used for girls, sometimes spelled Aiden or Aidyn; Grayson is a surname that gets used as a first name for boys and girls; ditto for Emerson, etc.
These names are not my style, but that doesn't make them "bad." If you love them, use one of them! People will adjust when the child is born. Don't give in to pressure from other people, because this is your child, and your heart will tell you what's best.

I LOVE Ronan! I think it's fabulous. And Ronan Michael is a great combination.
Logan is okay. I don't dislike it, I'm just a little tired of it. I know lots of little Logans and it seems to be on its way out. Also, I think Logan and Ronan are too similar for siblings, and since I love Ronan so much, I'd look for a girls name that goes well with it. That way, if this baby is a girl, you can save Ronan Michael for a future son. Just somethign to think about!
AJ, enjoying life with C.
For a boy I like Ronan Michael...I LOVE this!
And for a girl Logan Marie...neither are my style, but it's not that bad.
Good Luck!

most people probably still view Logan as a boys name - I've come across definitely 2 girls, maybe 3, named Logan, but I still see it as primarily a boys name - and I think Marie definitely doesn't go well with it for a middle - it sounds like a boy with a girls middle name
as for Ronan - most people probably see that as a surname rather than a first name
there's nothing unique about the name Logan - unique for being used on a girl maybe, but not really then either - it's been in the top 500 even for girls since 1991 - I just checked on the social security site
only you and your husband have to like the names you pick, though, no one else
good luck
Love, love, LOVE Ronan! Wonderful choice there.
I'm not sure what you meant about having "different" names picked out, but using the more popular Irish type names -- Aidan, Caden, Logan, etc. -- for girls isn't different at all. It's actually part of a rather big trend at the moment. To be honest, Logan sounds like a brother to Ronan (though I applaud you for spelling it correctly ... I do much prefer this to Logynn or something LOL). It seems you're just looking for a name with a similar sound and feel to Ronan, however. A feminine alternative to your boy name, if that makes sense. In that case, I'd prefer something like Rowan for you.
That said, it's your baby, so your family and friends not liking the names isn't nearly as important as YOU liking them. I'd consider why they don't like them, in case there were some obvious teasing potential or something you hadn't thought of, but if you love a name don't change it for them, KWIM?

My thoughts...
Ronan Michael. This is OK. I like that you have a traditional middle name, so that if Ronan doesn't like his name when he gets older he can go by "R. Michael" in business. I have some colleagues who do this.
Logan Marie. I don't think Logan is "different" at all. It is very popular right now for boys and girls. If you select this name, people might think your child is a boy before they meet her. Again, though, I like that you have a traditional middle name in case she decides to use it when she gets older. If you are trying for "unique", though, with Logan I don't think you are accomplishing that.
I like Ronan a lot for a boy.
