I was at another nameforum and I was told that beacause i was swedish i had a lower Iq and education then Americans and therefore I could not know what was right or wrong with swedish names.

I got really angry.

And gave the person facts about the name in question and told her that we in sweden are not dumb idiots.

She told me that swedes have done nothing for the world!

So why do we swede have the nobel price ?

Maybe beacause Nobel was swedish and his real name was Alfred from Nöbbelinge..

Ghaa just angry. So Ivillage please let me help do a name search with real swedish names.

Not fakes and wrong genders, please let me help does who want to conect with their swedish roots.

Just feal so insaulted right now.

And today is not a good day to mess with me, last night i found out that Jonathan 5 years old had died in cancer last month, his parents was freinds to me and my ex husbanden.

I'm sorry for the ignorant people you have had to deal with. I worked with a Swede a few years back. A great guy. And I assure you he was very smart! Cute too =)

Some people are just ignorant and cannot see beyond their own nose, or in this case their own country. There is a lot of hatred in pockets of the U.S.. I have seen some as a result of the terrorist attacks and other hatred from just plain meanness (is that a word?).

Anyhow, we aren't all like that. I appreciate all countries and cultures. In my team at work I work with people from Sweden, Romania, India, Russia, China, Jamaica, Morroco the list just goes on and on. I value my international work and personal relationships because of the richness they bring to my life here in the states and because of the constant reminder that indeed the U.S. does not live in a bubble.

I think some in the U.S. forget sometimes that there forefathers and mothers came from outside of the U.S. too. Some from SWEDEN especially in my part of the country (Minnesota).

Also, I'm very sorry to here about Jonathan. Cancer is terrifying, especially in the young. My heart goes out to you and Jonathan's family. And I hope that you don't have to deal with anymore narrow minded people.

Sincerely,

Peggy

Yep, there's a bunch of idiots in the world and even if you know they're idiots, they can still make you feel bad. There are a lot of people from other countries on ivillage, too, that have biases towards Americans, and I just don't understand the attitude. It sure would be nice if people would take time to get to know other people instead of generalizing about them based on anything about them. Even trying to make judgements about intelligence is not very intelligent, since there are so many kinds of intelligence, and so many different ways of showing it.

I lost a 5 year old cousin right after Christmas 2002. He was severely handicapped, physically and mentally, which made no difference in how we felt his loss. I'm sorry about your friends' child.

Sadly it's often Idiot Americans you often see, here on ivillage people seam to have a brain and use it and thats why I love Ivillage.

As I said to freind it partly Europe fault that U.S are as it is, we send you all our poor, religous fanatics, puritans and mavricks and U:S had to build a country out of that.

I saw that its harder for swedes to get Visa to U.S mayby its beacause we invented the safty maches and the dynamit *smile*

I wish we all could get along and be freinds´but as the world is right now its impossibel.

Sounds like someone had a bug up their butt. Don't mind what other people say to you. Their own ignorance speaks volumes.

Try http://www.behindthename.com/nmc/swe.html for some information on Swedish names. I've found it to be a useful site for names of many cultural backgrounds.

There are people in this world who just don't know what is good for them. Some feel they can say anything they want with out even thinking how it can hurt another person. Be brave, be strong and stand tall.
