I like "A" names for our daughter.

Do you like name "Auriel"?

We're not French or that into French culture-- but I am looking for a unique but classic "A" girl name.

THANKS!! The Baby Name board has the best ideas!!!

I don't like Auriel--sounds too much like a mispronunciation of Ariel, which reminds me of Flounder, Sebastian, Ursula, etc. As a general rule, I think it's bad to give your child a name that a Disney character shares.

What about...
Astrid?
Analiese (Anne Elise, Anneliese, Annaliese, Annelise, Annalise--wow, how do you spell this name for real)?
Abigail?
Audrey?
Anabel (Annabelle)?
Anabella (Annabella)?
Alice (Alyce)?
Allegra?
Amelia?
Allison (Allyson, Alison)?

Let us know which ones you like, and which you decide on.

I'm not too crazy about Auriel... it sounds like Oriole (like the Baltimore Orioles and the bird the team was named after).

My favorite "A" names are Allison, Alexandra, Annabel, Annabeth, and Aubrey. Other options (some more unique than others):

Adriana
Adrienne
Aileen
Ainsley
Aislinn (Ashlyn)
Alicia
Amy/Aimee
Andrea
Angela
Angelina
April
Arabella
Arianna
Audra
Audrey
Avery

I also thought of one more:

I'm not particularly fond of Auriel, it sounds like a mash of the Latin word for gold and Ariel the Mermaid. I DO however like Aurelia which is Italian and the feminine form of the Latin Aurelius and does mean "gold or gilded".
Some other offbeat "A" names I like are Adele (means "noble"), Allegra (Darn that allergy medicine! it means cheerful, lively), Anissa (meaning "satisfaction", Annora (AH-nora, meaning "honor") & Anthea (meaning "flowery").

I can almost guarantee that you won't run across anyone with one of these names. Well, maybe Adele, as Adeline & Adelaide are starting to be used a bit, but Adele rarely is heard.

Hope those help!

edited to fix an errant parentheses.

I really do like most of these "A" names! THANK YOU EVERYONE!!

Astrid? Always admired this name.

Analiese (Anne Elise, Anneliese, Annaliese, Annelise, Annalise--wow, how do you spell this name for real)? LOVE this- Annabel was my #1 choice until we started TTC . I like that it combines English, French & Italian (all my ancestries).
Abigail?

Hi, THANK YOU!

On your list: I really enjoying & now adding:

Aubrey!

& Arabelle (combining the Italian name w/ an Anglo-French name at the end).

I love your suggestions every time they're very helpful.

I am so glad for your help!

(I think I'm up to 8-9 names under consideration). How fun is this?! :)

I love, LOVE Ava. I like Anabelle or Anabel, but NOT Anabell! I much prefer Morgan to Courtney. You're right, this is fun!

I don't think it's "pretentious" at all. It's very nice, a cute twist on Ariel, which is a nice name. I feel that with that spelling you mean for it to be pronounced -ARE-ee-el as opposed to AIR-ee-el, which is how Ariel is prounounced. At least that's how I see it.

if you're not convinced the other A names that I like are Aubrey, Amber, Alyssa, Angela (probably a little outdated, but it still grabs me for some reason), Amy, Aleya (Ah-lee-ah).

the ones which I feel are too over-used are Abigail and Alexandra.

good luck
