We need your help with finding the perfect Irish name for our second boy. DS (2-10-03) is Aidan and we had no idea it was soooooo popular when we picked it. On our honeymoon in 2000, we bought a Celtic Names for Children book while in Ireland with the intent of giving all of our kids Irish names.
We have hit a huge stumbling block with DS2- EDD 4-25-06. We cannot agree on one name. DH wants something "really Irish" and I want something that is easy to pronouce, easily recognizble, but not another Aidan (it's too darn bad Logan is so popular!!)
We are tossing around the idea of Finnian (NN Finn, nmn decided yet) Kenyon. Is that too unusual in the states? We live in a very conservative town with a very conservative set of parents.
Advice, or suggestions please!
Thanks,
Julie and Ryan

Until our son was actually born, I was dead-set on naming him Callahan. I absolutely love that name!

Hello and congratulations.
I am in Australia and popularity of names are probably a bit different over here than in the states. I have worked with many children and only met a couple named Aidan/Aiden which is a lovely name. Here Logan is rarely used. Several years ago a teacher of mine named one of her twin girls Logan and I haven't heard it since, but it is also not one of my favourite name eithers. Finnian is a nice name, but maybe a bit too 'unusual'.
Here are some suggestions that are different, but not too strange -
- Riley (and it is like a combination on both your names Ryan and Julie)
- Connor/Conor
- Branden/Brandan (though I have read this name means 'foul smelling hair?!)
- Brennan
- Rafferty
- Quinn/Quin/Quinlan
- Sean
- Regan
- Tiernan
- Flynn/Flyn
- Corey/Cory
- Neil/Niel/Neal
- Liam
- Declan
Hope this helps and good luck with the name search.
Claire :)
