Baby Boy Number 3

Hi. I would appreciate any help or thoughts on names for our third baby boy due in six weeks!

Our first two boys are Aidan Christopher and Brennan William.

We are considering: Colin; Conner; Griffin; Harrison; Trevor. The problem is - my husband and I do not love any of these names. I like each of them for different reasons, but also have concerns for each one. Does Colin sound too much like the other boys? Is Conner too popular? I like Harrison - but will he be called Harry (hate that nn)? And is Griffin too harsh in sound? (silly, I know..)

Do you like any of these names more than the other? Or do you have any other suggestions for similar names? I am desperate for any help at all.

Thanks in advance for reading.

hiya =) congrats on your baby on the way =) Connor was actually one of the boy names I had picked out for my daughter if she had been a he, so I'm partial to that one. GL with your choices =)

I love Aidan and Brennan, especially as brothers -- they are a perfect match!

Here are my thoughts on your list:

Colin -- very nice. I love this name and it's a perfect match. The final "n" is a bit repetitive since all three have it, but it's not that noticeable (and the vast majority of Irish names end in "an" so it's almost unavoidable)

Conner -- Love this. I'd spell it Conor, that's the correct Irish spelling for a first name. Connor/Conner are surnames.

Griffin -- LOVE this. This is my favorite so far. It fits perfectly but feels a little different. A great choice.

Harrison -- eh.I like this name okay, but it doesn't stand out to me (unless Harrison is a family surname). I'd go with something that feels more Irish.

Trevor -- hmm, this might grow on me. I don't love it, but it's nice and not predictable right now, which is a plus.

Overall, Griffin is my favorite so far. I love Colin and Conor, my only concern would be that either would set up and A-B-C pattern. If you're plannng (or considering) a fourth child eventually, you might feel locked into a D.

Here are some more names that go nicely with Aidan and Brennan.

Alistair
Ciaran
Declan
Dermot
Duncan
Finn/Finley/Finnegan/Finnian (one of these might be a good option if you like Griffin but feel like it's too harsh)
Garrett
Liam
Lochlan
Niall
Neil
Patrick
Riordan (Reer-dan)
Ronan
Tierney

I voted for Griffin in your poll but, honestly, I'm not loving any of those either.

How about Davis, Forest or Graham?

Your boys have great names! I'm sure you'll do just as good a job naming this one. ;) FWIW, I wouldn't worry too much about the similar N endings in your case ... so many masculine Irish names end this way, you really can't do much about it.

With Aidan Christopher and Brennan William:

Colin -- I like this, but if you want a less popular option, you might also like Cullan/Cullen, Callum/Calum, Cilian/Cillian, Conlan/Conlin, Conall, Craigen, Carraig or Callahan

Conner -- I like the name, but not this spelling. See Colin for more C suggestions ;)

Griffin -- my favorite from your list. Love the nn Finn (if you're planning on using one). If Griffin seems "harsh" to you, some alternatives might be Finnian, Findlay/Finley or Garrett

Harrison -- my least favorite with your boys' names

Trevor -- a bit dated next to your boys, if that makes sense. You might also like Taggart, Tadgh/Teigue/Teague, Teagan, Tiernan, Tierney

ETA: Ok, I see that Annie already said pretty much the same thing. LOL Hopefully you won't mind hearing it twice. ;)

Hi, I love your son's Irish names. My very favorite Irish name is Declan, so my choice for you would be Declan Patrick. I think that would go well with your other two!

Good luck!

I dated a guy named Harrison--very affluent family and it was a family name--they shortened it to Harris. I like it. My favorite Irish name is a guy I know from Ireland and his name is Cian--(Key-an) I love that name.

Hello and congrats on expecting.

I think you have a great list. These are all good choices to go with your first two boys.

With Aidan and Brennan, I like the subtle connection of Colin (ABC). The ending sound doesn't bother me either because all three are so blatantly Irish.

I think Colin is fine with Aiden and Brennan - in fact, just about perfect them. When you get to #3 of the same gender it's a little tough to really "love" the name because you picked the one(s) you really loved the first & second time

Conner is more popular than Colin, but not so popular as to avoid it. It would give you a different ending, but be in the same style for the most part

I don't mind the name Griffin, it's in the style, I don't see it as "harsh" sounding, but there are so many people in my area with that as a last name

I agree with Harrison assessment completely - I can't stand Harry

here are some others I feel are in the Aiden/Brennan/Colin/Conner/Griffin style:

Colton, Declan (I don't personally car for that, but it 'fits'), Derek, Eric, Evan, Ethan, Garrett, Gavin, Holden, Hunter, Ian, Jared, Keegan, Kyler, Landon, Logan, Mason, Parker, Payton, Preston, Spencer, Skyler, Tanner, Trevor, Tristan

good luck
