Baby girl due in 12 days and no name!

I am having such a hard time with the name of this baby. DS and DH really want her name to be Allie. I like Allie, but I would like it to be short for something so she will have more options later. We can't seem to agree on anything for a formal name. DH likes Alexandra, but DS is NIcholas and there is the unpleasant Russion hisory association (DS says this is silly). I like Alaina, but DH had a cousin named Alayna. I'm not crazy about Allison or Alice and there are 4 Alyssa's at daycare. Anyone have anysuggestions? TIA!

How about "Allyn" (not pronounced allen, but a-lynn) or Allisa, Allona, Alisha...? Good Luck!

I'm just going through the baby book I have, and these are the ones that I like a lot that would give you the nn Allie (and aren't the ones you've mentioned):

Alcina (for a Greek sorceress who isn't very nice to her lovers--oops!)
Alcinda
Aleta (Greek: Footloose)
Alethea (Greek: Truth)
Alida (Latin: Small winged one) This is my favorite! I love Lida (Lyda, Lidah, Leda) as a nn as well
Alma (might be too old sounding...)

Good luck!

How about Aleia/Aleah/Aleya (not sure what spelling is correct, but know I've heard the name "Ah-Lee-Ah") or Alessandra (not exactly like Alexandra)?

How about Alina?

I think Alexandra is a great choice. The Russian history is a bit strange, but most people wouldn't associate it - especially if you are using the nn Allie.

Other ideas:

Alexandria
Alicia
Alisha
Aleah
Alina
Allegra

I wouldn't worry about that Alexandra/Nicholas thing in Russian history. I'm sure there are a lot of Alexandra/Nicholas siblings in this country, because the names are pretty much from the same "style" so those attracted to one would also be attracted to the other.

Most Alexandra's go by "Alex" - I know two (young teenagers, 13-14ish) who are Alexandra's who go by Allie

I personally do like Allison better than Alexandra, but if you don't, I realize everyone has different tastes.

if there's a cousin named Alayna, you should nix that. most Alyssa's don't use the nn Allie.

only other suggestions I can think of without being too "out there" are Aleya, Alicia, Alina (i pronounced as a long E).

good luck.

I don't think that you would have to worry about people having a bad connection with Nicholas and Alexandra. Actually, I had no idea what you are talking about.
