I've heard opinions both ways. For me, if he had a healthy, happy life I'd be fine with it (naming after an animal that went tragically seems a bit jinxy to me,) but this is definitely a case where what you're comfortable with is the best criteria.

i think its more of a 'person' name and I think its fine.

Go for it!! If you love the name, then use it. And if people get weirded out by it, then it's their issue. It just might be hard for you to call your son Henry since Henry the dog passed. My bf and I saved a rott/lab puppy from a shelter and I named her Stella, but she died from parvo and few months later. I love the name Stella and might use it for one of my children, but it would be a constant reminder of my lost furry friend.
