baby name regrets

We named our daughter Isadora Bellatrice. The first was my choice and the second her fathers. Since her father really wanted the middle name, I agreed and thought I could come up with a first name that I liked. Apparently I was under alot of pressure at the time because I almost immediately regreted my choice. Our daughter is now 4 yrs. old and takes her name as a natural fact, she is a happy and spirited girl. But the name continues to bother me regularly especially when I introduce her to people. Doesn't seem to have gotten better over time.

Any suggestions? Name changing/adding/dropping/parts or whole/nickname Isa(ee-sah) does anyone like the name Isadora/should I leave it alone or at this point do I even have a choice?

Thanks for sharing your opinion with me.

I think Isadora Bellatrice is quite lovely and distinctive in it's own right, no need to change it or add anything to it. Isa as a nickname is also pretty. At 4, changing her name would be confusing for both your daughter and the people who know her as Isadora. I quite like her name just the way it is.. feminine, sweet with a creative lilt.. you did a wonderful job naming her.. please leave it the way it is!

I *love* the name Isadora, and actually have it on my list of girls names. It makes me think of the dramatic Isadora Duncan (despite her untimely death) and has a very artistic feel to it. Somehow I don't think DH will let me name ours Isadora, only because he really wants Julia or Samantha.

I actually think Isadora is quite cute. I LOVE the nickname Dora/Dorrie and it might be easier to use when you introduce her. Sorry, I don't care for Iso. At four years old I think it is definitely too late to change her first name, although you could just use her nickname all the time, if you like it better.

Not crazy about Bellatrice, but it's just her middle name. If you really hate it you could change it to Bella or Beatrice. But her father probably wouldn't appreciate that. :) I'd just leave it. It might be special to her in the future that her father chose it. And it's very princessy - which she might like.

I'm sorry you have regrets, but I don't see anything wrong with Isadora! It seems like a special name to me.

I don't think you should have regrets about Isadora. Maybe in my generation, when everyone was Kelly or Amy or Lisa, Isadora would seem like a "big" name for a little girl, or would stand out. But old-fashioned, off-the-beaten path names are currently seen as very trendy and desirable. Plus, Isadora is not really "out there" because it sort of fits in with all of the Isabellas out there... it's just a little more unique.

I second the suggestion of a previous poster who thought Dory or Dora would be a cute nn. Or you could always go with Issy/Izzy, which is also cute.

I wouldn't change her name! Names are really tied into identity -- so if your daughter was 4 weeks old, it might be an option, but 4 years old -- no way! She's already identified herself as Isadora to relatives, playmates, classmates, etc. And you said it yourself, she is a happy, spirited little girl. I think we as parents and potential parents put way too much stock in the effect that names actually have on kids' lives!

Good luck -- hope the positive responses give you some reassurance!

Give me a break! These boards are full of women with problems ranging from miscarriages to the discovery of genetic abnormalities in their unborn children and you're going to complain about the name you chose for your daughter four years ago! If this is your biggest problem in life, honey, count yourself as blessed. Just love your daughter and don't try to fix something that isn't broke.

OMGosh! What an AWESOME name! I'm the Momma to a 9 y/o (before it's rush to stardom) Isabella. She uses the nn, Issy. BUT years after her birth, I found Isadora and wished I'd have named her that! It was sooooo unique! I think you have a winner there! AND she's not going to have to worry about 3-5 more in her school classes...Like AMY here did! LOL!

Help or hinder?

What the heck does that have to do with the topic at hand = baby names?

This board is about names, and naming children. I think the OP's comments were totally in line with the discussions here and I don't understand why you are so upset.
