Baby of the Year

Every year in my area (Nottingham, UK) the local news paper has a Baby of the Year contest. It is very popular over 2000 applicants - newborn to 3 years. I like to look through and look at the names obviously and being a teacher I like to pick out the unusual names and creative spellings...

Popular names:
Mackenzie 6/ Mckenzie 8/ Makenzie 2/ Mekenzie 2/ M'kenzie 1 (boys and girls but mainly boys)
Jayden 6/Jaydan/Jaydon/Jaiden
Kaden 3/Kaydon 4/Kayden 2/ Kaiden/Khaiden/Keadan/Caiden/Caden/Kaydn - girl/ and would you believe a K-Dan and a Bladen and Freyden!!
Neeve/Neave/Niamh/Neive/Naeve
Tyler 8 including 1 girl/Tylor
Reece/Rhys
Mia/Ruby/Lacey/Kira/Keira/Daisy/Skye/Mollie/Milly/Ellie
Owen/Alfie/Cian/Kian
Riley/Rhiley/Ryley
Kai/Kye

Unusual names: (unusual in that they have creative spelling or are different from the norm around here ...make your own mind up what you think of them!)

I was surprised at the amount of double barrelled or hypenated names for boys and girls...not the usual for round here, for example (and this is just a sample...)
Jack-lee/ Taylor-James/John-Joe/Tyler-James/Kai-Luca 3/Kaenan-Lee
Demi-Mae 4/Poppy-Leigh/Cara-Faith/Lillie-Mae/Lily-Mae/Chelsea-Mae/Charli-Mae/Ashleigh-faith/Mollie-Marie/Millie-Mae/Darcy-Dot/Jennifer-Jean
My theory is some parents want to call their children by their initials - JJ, TJ, DD - however some parents took this a stage further and gave their children just initials as
CJ (2 of) AJ (2 of) MJ (girl) and an A-Jay show.
I don't know where Dani-Ella's parents were coming from!

Boys:
Dior
Ashden
Merlin (2)
Makye 2/Makai 2/Macrae/Macorlie/ McKell
Caylan/Kaelen/Kash/Kenlee/Chayce
Fenton
Jenson 6
Zane/Zain/Zayne
Orlando
Jushaun
Ice
Jazz
Pacey
Daikin
Pip
Oakley
Cordell
Leighton 3
Konna
Rylan
Blade
Forrest
AND Se7en ....I was saving this til last...I guess his parents are fans of the film!!

Girls:
Tigerlily
Kaydi/ Kizzy/ Katarzyna
Fertile / Venus
Ceyennah (as in Sienna?)
Precious/ Diamond/ Ocean/ sahara
Cacharel
Keigan
Bibi/ Bae/ Buffy
Alivia/ Ellelea/ Pyper/ Amieleigh/ Mollaigh/ Tileigh/ Ameleah/ Chloie/ Madeleing/ Ebbie/ Ambar
Tennessee
McKisha
Mylee
Millen
Jeylin/ Jazmine/ Jasmyn/ Jayley/ Jaydeanna
Aribeth
Anisa
Torny

What do you think?

Fertile as a girl's name? That is atrocious!

I cannot belive some of those names! My personal choices for the worst from this list are:

K-Dan
Ice
Se7en
Fertile (what???)
Mollaigh
Chloie
Amieleigh

All those poor kids.

Fertile leapt out at me, too, as did Madeleing and Se7en. Good Lord. Are Mollaigh and Tileigh kree8iv spellings of Molly and Tilly, or am I missing something?

It's actually refreshing to see that the crazy names trends aren't limited to the US, that even across the pond there are kre8tiv spellings and horrid trends.

funny,
