Baby's name sounds bad with last! WDYT?

The ONLY name that my husband and I both love sounds pretty bad with our last name. Should we use it anyway? I figure she'll probably only have our last name for 20 some odd years lol! Her first name would be Elise, last name Steed. I thought maybe if we found like a 3 syllable middle name that made it flow better that might be ok. Do you think we're crazy to do this to her?

Thanks!

Well, you're right that Elise Steed doesn't sound great together, but I don't think it's horrible. I've heard worse. ;-) One idea might be to name her Elisabeth, nn Elise, so that she'd have the option of using a different nn if she ever wanted to. Or you could use Elise as her middle name so that in formal settings, her name would have a nicer sound, but you could still call her by the mn Elise.

Just a couple thoughts... Good luck!

You're right about the S sounds running into one another ... have you considered making her given name Elisa (just to add that extra syllable to divide the S sounds) and perhaps calling her Elise as a shortened form? That might help. :)

I like Stephanies idea of naming her Elizabeth and nn elise. My name is Katherine and was known as Kathy for ages. Or giving her Elise as a mn which gives the option to use her mn instead of first name. Another thought is to make the first name 3 syllables so it rolls off the tounge better with your ln. What about Elisa Steed, Elisy Steed? Don't know if that suits you.

Even Annelise Steed sounds better. And you can still call her Elise. The Ann beginning for some reason doesnt make it sound as bad. just an idea

I would go with it for sure. I know many people with names like that- Celeste Smith as an example, and after hearing it a few times, you get used to it and you can't imagine any other name. It just seems to flow. Definetly use it, Elise is a beautiful name.

It's not a beautiful, flowy, poetic name, but it sounds fine to me. If you really don't like the way Elise Steed sounds to your ears, I like using Elizabeth or Anneliese as a fn and Elise as a nn.

I like Elise Steed. I also think everyone else posted good suggestions. I kind of like Elise better as a nn.

Its that whole idea of creating a new person and a new name that you have never heard before. It just takes a little time and it will sound perfect to you. It seemed to me that when I was pregnant that it didn't matter what name I put with my last name sounded odd. Even when I got married my name with my husbands last name sounded odd to me. Now it seems like I have alway had his last name.

I had a class mate that her parents named her Amber Amberson. And another class mate that married into the name Mary Motes.=)

Hope this helps.

I don't think it's that bad. Elisa would sound better. or a nickname like Ellie. But, if you love Elise, I'd still use it.
