Baby's name sounds bad with last! WDYT?

The ONLY name that my husband and I both love sounds pretty bad with our last name. Should we use it anyway? I figure she'll probably only have our last name for 20 some odd years lol! Her first name would be Elise, last name Steed. I thought maybe if we found like a 3 syllable middle name that made it flow better that might be ok. Do you think we're crazy to do this to her?

Thanks!

The thing is, she won't use her middle name every day, so her name will sound like Eliseteed. How about Lisa? Eliza? Alyssa? Just the "a" at the end keeps the first and last names separated.

I don't really like the ideas about changing the name Elise to Elisa or Eliza. I think those actually sound worse with the last name Steed. Here's why: Steed is a noun, a thing. And when you make the name Elisa Steed, it sounds to me like a phrase: "Elise, a steed." That's bad.

Elise Steed isn't bad at all. The major concern with running sounds together like that is that the name will be misunderstood. I don't think anyone would mishear Elise Steed as Eli Steed or Elise Teed because Eli (pronounced uhLEE like in Elise) is not a normal first name and Teed is not a normal last name.

And chances are, she'll end up going by Ellie or Lissa or something you don't predict, anyway :)

I don't think it's too bad. Ideally the last sound of the fn wouldn't flow into the beginning sound of the ln but it's not too bad. I'd go for it. Elise is a very pretty name.

I woudn't do this...in fact, I wouldn't choose any name ending in the s sound with the last name of Sneed. Think of other names that either begin similary or have the same feel as Elise-- how about:

Elaine
Elena
Elisabeth
Elissa
Helene
Helena
Helen
Ellie
Elinor
Elle
Sarah

It wouldn't be the end of the wold...but I would try to find something out.

How incredibly rude to our baby!!! If you weren't 9 months preggers with our 5th baby I would think you didn't love her. You're also lucky you are in the middle of your Sunday nap--no retaliation until you are awake.

I have read more than once that your first name shouldn't end with the same letter that your last name starts with. Therefore this wouldn't work.

I too LOVE the name Elise but could NEVER use it. My last name rhymes with the word Peace. So imagine Elise Peace..............Doomed to be picked on forever.

I would come up with a new name if I were you.

My two names seem to run together often. They are both unusual names and people just get confused. Elise and Steed are not unusual so that will help. Over the years I have adjusted the way I introduce myself with a long pause between the two names and if it is on the phone I usually go ahead and spell my last name. I love my first name and married a wonderful man with the problemtic last name so I really don't mind at all. As she gets older she will probably just develop some strategies to lessen the confusion. Elise is a very pretty name!

Good luck!
