Hello everyone,
I've been lurking for a while, confident in my choice of name for our child (dd due Oct 31 '06). We chose Ava Jordan.
However, all that changed when someone close to us named their dd the same name last week (just Ava). They will be in the same classes at the same schools, all they way until highschool and live right down the road from us (small town). They also attend the same church as us and will have their dd baptized next week (5 weeks before our dd is expected). They had attended prenatal classes with us as well, but we never revealed our name to them. It was quite a shock, the name has still been unheard of in our small community so obviously I didn't want to use it so shortly after them. It won't be original anymore!!
What do you think I should do? The Jordan part has to remain, it's after my brother. We are looking at new names now, this is our #1 choice.
Kyera Jordan (different spellings?)
What do you think?

I think Kiera Jordan or Kyra Jordan might be easier to spell. You can have the Kyera, but you might have a lot of corections ahead of you and

Too bad, although I think in this situation it is a good idea to change the name. Kyera looks like it would be misspelled all the time, I prefer Keira or Kara. Some other names that you might like that have the same feel as Ava to me:
Eliza
Calla
Alice
Ruby
Leila
Stella
Tessa
Molly
Good luck!!
Oh, no! That had to have been quite a shock!
I think Kyera is a beautiful name although I prefer a different spelling. If you like the kee-AIR-uh pronunciation, I like Kiera. I like Kira or Kyra for the KEER-uh pronunciation, and I like Kiara for the kee-AHR-uh pronunciation. I don't know how popular the K names are in your community (Kayla, Kylie, Kelsey, etc.), but that's something to be aware of, too.
Some other names that might have a similar feel...
Amelia, nn Mia (or just Mia as a full name)
Maya
Elena
Delaney
Eliza
Evelyn
Genevieve, nn Eve/Evie/Genny
Vivian
Valerie
Veronica
Greta
Tessa (on its own or as a nn for Teresa/Theresa)
Audra
Clara
Nora (on its own or as a nn for Eleanor)
Lucy
Karina/Carina
Ivy
Olivia
Lily
HTH! Good luck finding a new name!

How about...
Eve Jordan
Amy Jordan
Ann Jordan
Maeve Jordan
Maya Jordan
Lynn Jordan
Piper Jordan
Keira Jordan (the Kyera spelling is nms)
most of all, go with the name you love! if you search for other names, and still love Ava, then go ahead and name her Ava.
here's some ideas:
Avalon,
Evangeline,
Evara, (EE-VARR-Ah, or EE-VAIRE-Ah (like EE-Sarah) as you prefer)
Kiona, (KEE-On-Ah)
Kyra, Keira,
Kiera, Kiara,
Kalonie, (Kay-LON-Nee)
Mave, Maven,
Moira,
Maris,
Myra,
Mavis,
Devona, (Irish for devine)
Jovanie, (like Italian Giovanni) or Jovana, (Jo-VAH-Nah or Jo-VANN-Ah) would be great too!!
Haven,
Tara,
Tirzah,
Violet,
Yvonne, or Yvonna,
Demaris,
Aviana, like Ariana, could be a wonderful distinctive Ava for you, and you could still call her Ava! while in class, she'd be Aviana! i really like Aviana! (and just looked Aviana is listed as a real name, doesnt list the meaning here, but would think be similar to Ava)
wishing you the best as you search to hear her name whispered to your heart.

I can't believe Ava is unheard of where you live! Ava is huge here. If it were me I would use in regardless of the other baby. Thats just me though.

As some have mentioned, you could go with a similar name or something longer that could be shortened to Ava at home (so she wouldn't have to have the same name as the other Ava in school, etc.).
Some of these have been mentioned, so sorry for repeats!
Aven/Avena
Aviela
Aviva
Availia
Tavia/Tava
Avalon
Aveline/Eibhilin
Avery
Avis/Avice
Aveza
Avila
Avia
Avani
Averil/Avril
Eavan/Aoibheann
Aoife
Eve/Eva
Evangeline
Evelyn
Chava
Genevieve
I do like Kiera/Keira/Kira/Kyra/Ciara Jordan, btw (any of those spellings), but not Kyera, which I'd pronounce like the beginning of Kyle + air-a.
