I would first like to thank you all for your suggestions and advice. As most of you know I having a terrible time finding a girl name that I love. At first I wanted the first name to have family ties, now I think the middle name will do just fine. I would like some more suggestions. . . could you help?
I have some rules:
1) Must sound good with Preston (ds)
2) Must sound good with Smith (surname)
3) Can't be a popular name (love Ava, but that is OUT :(
Popular meaning not in the top 50
4) I like classic sophisticated sounding names.
5) Middle name options- Avery, Leslie, Ann, Mae, Jane, and Kathryn
6) Nothing too trendy . . . even though I love Aidan, Ava, etc.
7) Oh yeah, it can't start or end with a -s (I love Annalise, but it does not sound good)
8) Can't end in -th sound (I love Elizabeth, but Elizabeth Smith is a mouth full)
Thanks again for your help~
Leslie

WOW!!! You're good :) I really like some of your suggestions. I have a question on one of them. . . I really like Avalyn. Did you find that in a book/internet site or did you make it up? I suggested that or someone else suggested that in a pp. I got several comments that it looked too made up. If you found it in a babybook/site I would feel much better (if so, could you tell me where you found it?). Thanks again for all of your suggestions :) There are some real possiblities!
Leslie :)
I know this was addressed to someone else, but since you haven't gotten a reply yet, thought it worth mentioning that Avalyn looks very much like a kre8iv form of either Avalon or Aveline (which ARE real names, though Avalyn is not). At best, it might be considered a combination of Ava and Lynn, assuming that's how you're thinking of pronouncing it (Avalon and Aveline, on the other hand, are short A beginnings).
Name books/sites are notoriously inaccurate, so I wouldn't be surprised at all to see it listed as an "alternate spelling" of one of the above or elaboration of the ever-popular Ava, but that doesn't necessarily make it so (since you mentioned it would sort of validate it in your mind). FWIW, it only came up on one name site when I did a quick search -- not BTN, obviously LOL -- and even then it had no origin or meaning listed (because there is none, other than what's been mentioned). It also comes up in a few message board type discussions similar to this one, but that's about it.

Honestly, the first name the popped into my head when I said "Preston &..." was Olivia, which I love, but is very popular right now. So, in lieu of that, here are some other options I think sound nice:
Rebekah Jane or Rebekah Kate (as a variation of Kathryn)
Ellery Jane
Morgan Avery
Natalie Jane/Natalie Kate/Natalie Ann/Natalie Mae
Amelia Kathryn/Amelia Jane
Audrey Kate/Audrey Jane
Bianca Kate/Bianca Kathryn
Lila Kathryn
Anna Kathryn
Marissa Kathryn/Marissa Jane/Marissa Ann
Carys Jane
Chloe Jane/Chloe Ann(a)
