BANE - The Decision

First of all, Thankyou to all those that replied to my original post regarding the boy's name Bane.

I certainly didn't mean to cause so much fuss - I know some of you were quite concerned about how the english meaning of the word "bane" may affect the child. Comments of "bane of my exsistance" etc.

Please allow me to set the record straight for all who are interested. . .

I love the sound of this name and the meaning given in my first post would be appropriate for any child (infertility issues or not).

But, just as i would refrain from naming my child Sadam (as in Husain) or Adolf (as in Hitler ) (No offence to those with children of those names, im just trying to make a point), I similarly must refrain from calling my little boy "Bane". Unfortunately you cant explain the name to everyone all the time. Plus the child would have to live with his name all his life. Many people would just never understand. In such circumstances, erring on the side of caution is going to be the best option.

Any way, its back to the drawing board. There are many, many beautiful names, and i'll find ones slightly less controvertial this time.

Lastly, a big thank you to those of you who said "go for it". It was refreshingly comforting to hear that i wasn't the only one to like the name.

Thanks again, Best wishes to all.

:)

I think you made the right choice too. When you posted the name, I was drawn to it as well. The phrase "bane of my existance" did not spring directly to mind, but I did think of it eventually. You're right that you can't explain the name to everyone, and you can't control how people will take the name. It will be your son who has to live with that, so I think you are right to error on the side of caution. Good luck! There are SO many wonderful names to choose from!
