My DH and I are in conflict between two different names for a girl. I Like ABIGAIL and he likes THIRSTEN. Please Help us choose our name!

Wow - Thirsten? I'm not familiar with that name, though I really like Kirsten or Kjerstin.

I would have to vote for Abigail given these choices!

Thurston is really how it is spelled but my DH liked it for a girls name and spelled it Thirsten so it looks more girly. It is an old name that you really dont hear anymore.

The choice is easy for me ... I LOVE Abigail, and the only Thirsten/Thurston I've ever heard of is Thurston Howell III from Gilligan's Island (and, yes, I immediately hear that annoying voice when confronted with this name, so I can't vote for it). :( That's ok, though, because the woman should get the final say for girls anyway, right (and Abigail is just adorable!)? :) hehe

I agree...name makes me think gilligan or "Thristy" so I won't go for it. Abigail is very popular if he like less popular names so you may need to keep on hunting and find a few more choices. I think Gayle is pretty all by itself and isn't nearly so popular.

Definitely Abigail! Thirsten??? Like, Thirsty Thirsten??? Imagine the teasing. Um...no. Plus it's masculine.

I'm not a fan of the name Thirsten, and actually this is the first time I've heard it for a girl, and even for a boy, even though I think it's traditionally a boy's name. As a previous poster said, Thurston reminds me of Gilligan's Island. When I think of names, I always think "would I like to have that name?" and Thirsten is not a name I'd like to have. I think I'd be mad at my parents for naming me that. I like the name Abigail. I'd definately go with that.

Well...Abigail is just too popular for my taste, even though it is a pretty name. I DO like names that are considered more masculine in origin for girls, but I think Thurston, this sp., for a boy.

To me, the perfect name for you two is Kirsten. Less popular than Abigail but still an old name and more familiar than Thirsten.

Or Abigail Thirsten, Thirsten Abigail, Abigail Kirsten, Kirsten Abigail

Best wishes, Ginger
