Bird for a middle name??

Hi Everyone,

We are considering using Bird as the middle name of our daughter, after my sister. This is not my sisters first name but everyone calls her Bird or Birdie (just a nn). Is it too ridiculous?? These are our front runners:

Mia Bird Haley
Mila Bird Haley (meelah)

Any comments/suggestions? Our second choice for a middle name is Rose after my grandmother. I really like it but it is SO common for a mn. Bird might be too out there... I'd love to hear what your thoughts!

Thanks so much

It is very out-there... but after reading your reasoning, I like it. Definately prefer Mia as a first name.

I'm not a big fan of Bird- I don't think it has a very pretty sound. If it was your maiden name or something like that, I wouldnt' find it all that odd to use it as a middle name for your daughter. Hearing about why it has significant meaning to you- I do think it's fine to use as a middle name. I'd strongly discourage against using it for a first name, but as a mn, it's fine... if you feel good about using it and think that it's a good way to honor your sister, I'd go for it! :-)
Best of luck!

I'd go for it (Bird) since it's a tribute to a loved one, not just some silly name you made up! It's meaningful.

I like both fns you've chosen, but Mia slightly more.

It's different, but if you love it and want to honor your sister that way I don't see a problem with it. You could also use her given fn or mn, but if no one calls her that I see the point of using the nn.

Another idea that would still honor her might be to use a different "bird" mn:

Lark
Raven
Robin
Sparrow
Aderyn -- Welsh name meaning "bird"
Avis -- Latin for "bird"
Mavis -- from a type of song thrush
Tzipporah/Zipporah -- Hebrew name meaning "bird"

Just to name a few. ;)

You could also use Brid (breej), an Irish form of Bridget, if you want to switch it around a bit.

Combined with the first names you're considering, it reminds me of mynah bird.

I am all for unique names, but I think it is a little out there. Although, at least she would have a story to tell any time they asked for her MN!
