Was looking through name list - what do you think of this as a boy's name?

BANE - Meaning "Long awaited child"

I love the sound of this name and i feel the meaning is beautiful for our much longed for baby. But i'd like to hear your opinions.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

The meaning you've listed is very nice.

I think Bane would be ok for a boys name.

I have to say no. It's a lovely meaning, but my first thought was "bane of my existence," which is extremely negative. Is it pronounced the same?

I know! That was my problem exactly.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I really love Bane Dominic. But I dont know if Bane as a first name would work in all honesty... The English meaning is not nice and most people will think of it when they hear his name.

Thank you for the names tho.

I too thought immediately of "bane of my existance". I use that phrase pretty frequently, and would be startled to meet a child with that as a name.

Yes it is pron the same. I love the meaning and the sound of the name too - just not the conotation most would put to it.

Back to the drawing board.

Although I have only heard of Bane for a last name (one of my closest friends) I think it sounds great as a first name and I love the meaning! :)

I'd go with another name meaning "long awaited child". I know that Samuel is one. Personally, I wouldn't pick a name that's so unusual (and to be honest, not that attractive) that it's going to generate a lot of questions about why the name and then you have to keep explaining "long awaited child" because it 1) it could put a lot of pressure on the child to be "the golden child" and 2) it may give busy-bodies ammunition to ask lots of questions. If you've been through infertility, you know what I mean.

Bane's common meanings are "a cause of death or ruin" or "a deadly poison" and I mostly hear it in the following context "he is the bane of my existence."

There is no way I would name a child Bane.

Was this post serious? Would you actually name a child this?
